Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - latecomer and newbie thoughts

I also find the cynical world of Witcher 3 more interesting than the fairly bland fantasy world of Skyrim. Not to mention that I find Witcher 3’s combat more engaging than Skyrim’s combat; I’ve enjoyed all of the Elder Scrolls games since Morrowind, but that’s probably despite the combat rather than because of it.

I give Witcher 1 a pass since it was a newbie developer just getting started. Even though it was not great and had some issues it was good enough and, I think, the eastern European aesthetic set it apart along with a decent story.

Witcher 2 was a big leap forward and great if not quite outstanding and then Witcher 3 is game of the decade quality.

Then they did Cyberpunk and dropped a turd.

Hot take: Cyberpunk 2077 is better than Witcher 2.

It’s is wayyyyyyyy worse than Witcher 3, though.

I liked Cyberpunk 2077 but it was nowhere near as good as Witcher 2.

But we agree Witcher 3 was a high water mark yet to be surpassed for that genre.

Depending on how the genre is defined, I would say Breath of the Wild is better than Witcher 3. I would rank the games I’ve talked about like this:

  1. Breath of the Wild
  2. Skyrim
  3. Witcher 3

However, Witcher 3 and Skyrim are very close. Breath of the Wild is a big step ahead of them, though. It’s my favorite game of all time by a big margin.

I’d reverse that. To each their own.

They are all great. I ain’t gonna fight over one or the other. I enjoyed then all.

All three are great! I agree entirely. Great examples of quality single-player games that have many hours of gameplay and exploration.

It’s going to receive a “tv show inspired” DLC on next-gen upgrade.

Will we get this on PC as well? Free?

So, this just dropped:

I guess Ciri is our new Witcher. As she should be.

Saw it last night, excited.

The company confirmed that Geralt will appear, but did not say if we would control him at any point. I presume most of the game is Ciri’s game and I’m 100% cool with that.

I got the best ending when I played Witcher 3. Did that end with her becoming a Witcher or at least beginning the process? I honestly can not remember the ending of that part; I remember the ending of the whole thing where Geralt retired(more or less) to his vineyard with the girl of your choosing.

That’s actually a big turnoff for me. I hated the Ciri sequences you had to play during Witcher 3. Visually, the new game looks stunning, but making Ciri the main character is a surefire way to keep my money in my wallet.

Based on the trailer, she now has Witcher abilities (or some variation thereof), rather than her Lady of Space and Time superpowers from the previous game. So if it was the gameplay in the Ciri sequences that turned you off, I doubt we’ll be repeating that. If it’s her character you don’t like, I can’t help you there.
