Think about this for a while: When I mentioned my taste for classical music, one of you posted a link about a Mozart piece with a crude title. What was the reason for that? Practice what you preach.
It was, and still remains, a small joke. You took offense at and and took it as a grave personal insult. That’s disproportionate.
Look at the OP of this thread. Read the title you gave it. That came before any joke about Mozart.
And “one of you”? Did I do it? Why are you telling me to practice what I preach? I practice exactly what I preach and I am not the person claiming to get little respect or admiration. You are. And I’m suggesting it might be because you behave horribly.
You said you liked “beautiful” music as compared to "rock " - the link was, as much as a joke - to point out the irony that “beautiful” or “classical” music was just as capable of being “crude” as the worst of rock - and you failed to get the joke.

dougie, I repeat this not to beat you up with it, but to hold it up as a mirror, to see if perhaps it gives you some insight into how you present yourself here via your written words.
And I do it as a longtime SDMB member who (rightly or wrongly) is generally perceived here as being even-handed and without any particular ax to grind with you.
My hope for you is that you experience all the joy in life that I hope to achieve for myself. And I’ve got high hopes.
Take what you feel you can use from that and leave the rest.
dougie, this will be my last post in this thread. I mentioned a while back that Ivory Tower was giving you some great advise but you have not acknowledged that comment and seem to be ignoring her/her advice. Now QtM has offered up some sage wisdom, IMO.
If your banter here is performance art, so be it. I can appreciate it on that level. So it’s all good.

As a fan of the art form, I understand that music appreciation is inherently subjective; I’m not enamored of 1990s country, for example, nor for boyband pop. But I see very clearly that beautiful music exists in many different forms, and caters to many different tastes. So I took no offense at your statement, because it’s a stupid thing to be offended by. But “all your music sucks and I only listen to the One True Music” struck my as really funny.
Now, you may not have intended to make that implication. But it sure seemed that way. So I decided to twit you a little over what appeared to be a silly musical prejudice, with a silly link to a silly song by a world-class rock and roll devil. That’s all.
It’s a shame you took that as so great a personal attack you felt the need to resurrect this trainwreck in order to call my mom a bitch. Obviously, I struck a nerve with my silly joke without intending to.
