My rule is simple and it’s always worked fine for me. Tights in winter, stockings in spring and fall, bare legs (almost always with open-toe shoes/sandals) in summer. Or maybe it could be stated as tights below 40ºF, bare above 80º, stockings in between. That’s for the office. Otherwise, who cares.

Anyway, I’m forty and have always lived in Florida. I still prefer hose, for all the reasons **Scarlett67 **listed. I’ve given up the flesh-toned ones to avoid becoming a clueless old lady. However, when it comes to the sheer off-black hose, you will have to peel those off my cold dead legs, ya pervert!
I have some fishnets too, but those don’t do much for the foot sweat problem.
