Before you answer, please take note of what this question is NOT. I’m not interested in what specifically you find attractive. This is not the place to debate muscular versus skinny, hirsute versus glabrous, black versus white versus Asian versus infinity. No need to bring any of that up. I am also not interested in whether standards of beauty are objective, culturally based, or somewhere in-between. What I AM interested in is hearing whether female Dopers are interested in seeing attractive persons (by each woman’s idiosyncratic definition) naked, in the way that men generally are. In case anyone cares, there’s an argument involved. I tend to think that a good number of women–maybe even a majority–like seeing naked attractive persons of their preferred gender; the woman I’m arguing with disagrees. Poll in a moment, but don’t let that slow you down. ---

I am a heterosexual female, and I find attractive nude male bodies very exciting and fun to look at. I’m pretty surprised to hear anyone is arguing that they find their partner unattractive naked, despite finding them attractive while clothed. I strongly suspect that any woman who would say such a thing is either asexual, a closeted lesbian, or has some whacko-serious body image issues. ---

Female and straight. Also, I have spent more time than the average human at nudist beaches, camps and resorts. I’m not at all turned on by the sight of beautiful naked women, although they are pleasing to look at. Ditto with beautiful naked men. Not a turn-on (although pleasing to look at) unless I have some sort of relationship with him. ---

I think there’s a wide gulf between good-looking men you’re objectifying via pictures, and your actual romantic partner. Of course I’d prefer the actual man-I-have-sex-with to be naked. But I’d rather look at a shirtless pic of, say, Chris Hemsworth than a Playgirl spread, or whatever. ---

Straight female. I think my enjoyment of looking at attractive naked people is more like the enjoyment someone might get from looking at an interesting painting than the way that most guys seem to respond to naked women. While I guess there are some women who are like guys in regards to being visually stimulated, I don’t think it’s at all unusual for women to be indifferent to stuff like this. ---

I was with ya until you said, “…in the way that men generally are.” I don’t think that’s true of me. I don’t go seeking out naked men. I don’t masturbate to images of naked men. I don’t find sexual pleasure in naked men unless there’s some context to it that arouses me, like I’m about to get some or, sometimes, another person is about to have sexual contact with him. I appreciate naked men. If my friend squeals “Ooooh! He’s HAWT!” I’ll probably walk several dozen feet to see the gent in question and offer my opinion. But I’d do the same for an alleged pretty pair of earrings or a painting. So, I’m interested, but not “…in the way that men generally are,” unless I misunderstand how men are interested in seeing attractive nude persons of their preferred gender, on average, broad brush, etc. **Rachellelogram** , I adore my husband. I love having sex with him. I love the feel of his skin on mine and his lips and his hands and…whew, is it hot in here? But he is not, by any generous interpretation, an attractive-to-look-at man when he’s naked. He’s got a belly like Tweedledee and it’s all lumpy and bumpy because of multiple hernias, and missing a belly button and got a huge dimple in one side from where a colostomy once was. He’s got skinny little legs and no butt. Much of that can be hidden with clothing, so he does look much more attractive clothed, but he’s still not a real great looking guy. Naked, he’s a Beast. He’s my Beast, and I adore him, but I sure ain’t with him for his looks. ---
