# Women's March On Washington -- are you going?

It seems that half the people I know including most of my ambulatory relatives are going to at least a ‘sister’ march. My NYC niece is going to Washington for the eponymous one. Although there is one in the college town near me I am driving the 40 miles to Silicon Valley where I expect there will be huge participation.
This is a predominantly male board but the issues are much farther reaching than saving women’s health care (which of course affects men too).
I’m really marching because it beats sinking into despair. I kind of need to not sink. I know that merely marching is not enough but it’s a start. Lots of amazing changes have started with just marching.
Wondering if anyone else is planning to attend a march.

Hell no. I was extremely turned off by the behavior of the organizers when it was in its early planning stages, so I wasn’t planning on attending anyway. Living in NOVA and knowing what a logistical nightmare the current version will be turned me off even further. I wish all participants the absolute best and hope there isn’t too much rampant stupidity by counter protestors.

I have 3 friends who are going (from Akron). It’s not their first “march on Washington” so the logistics aren’t that crazy for them. I actually have several contacts out that way that I could stay with but the physical idea of it doesn’t entice me at all.
They are having marches in Cleveland and Akron. I MIGHT go to the Cleveland one if any of my girls are going.
I am down with it all in spirit but body not so much.

Wait until Trump does the inevitable Very Bad Thing/ Decision.
Preemptive protests are just wasting energy.

If I were more ambulatory we’d consider going. We’ve been to LGBT marches on Washington, and they were fantastic experiences. I declined an opportunity to go to the 1963 March on Washington, and always regretted it.

There was another thread on it a few weeks after the election and several posters indicated it was rather loosely organized, slapdash in nature.

It may tighten up, may not. The idea, it appears, originated with a Facebook post the day after the election, just one person. It immediately went kinda went wild. Last I checked, 270 cities in the US and 50 in other countries are listed as having ‘sister’ marches in solidarity with the Washington one, some will be very large.

I don’t know if you’re right about wasting energy or not, I guess we’ll see. I certainly disagree about waiting until Trump does a very bad thing. He’s trying as hard as he can to do everything exactly wrong, what would we be waiting for?
I also think there are a lot more people angry and frustrated with the election than were mobilized by the Occupy movement. One of the things the marches, if successful, will do, is to show those who have been lying flat on the floor with the lights turned off since the election, that they are not alone.
It will also show congress the depth of anger they may be facing.
Just those two things, for me, would make it worthwhile to attempt.

4. Locking up political opponents
5. Caused large Corps values to fall with a single tweet
6. Openly appointed racists to his inner circle
7. Threatened to start a war with China
8. Gift wrapped the US for the use of Russia
9. Destroying international trade deals.
