# Wonderfalls unaired episodes on LOGO -- Lesbians???

I couldn’t sleep last night and happened to catch the first unaired episode of Wonderfalls on the LOGO network. I really liked that show when it first came on, before FOX saw fit to cancel it after the 3rd episode. They had filmed the whole season so there was a bunch of unaired episodes.
I went to [Amazon.com](http://Amazon.com) and bought the whole season DVD.
Then, just now I searched “Wonderfalls” on the SDMB and found mention in a [thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=326216&highlight=wonderfalls) back in July that they’d be airing the unaired episodes. There was also mention that LOGO is MTV’s gay & lesbian network.
What about Wonderfalls was gay or lesbian? I know that there was some suspision that Jaye’s sister was a lesbian, but is there more to it than that? There was something in there about FOX not allowing them to air a lesbian kiss. It’s been almost 2 years since I saw the aired episodes, and my memory is a little fuzzy now.

Jay’s sister was indeed a lesbian, and throughout most of the series has a lesbian lover.

The sister was a lesbian, pairing up with the ex-wife of the delivery guy for the Wonderfalls souvenier store. That triangle takes quite a few dips and turns throughout the run of the show.
Great show, goddam Fox! They can keep The War At Home on, and get rid of this and Arrested Development?!?! I gotta find out if I get LOGO on Disn network so I can record this! Thanks for the tip!

Yes, and both of them were quite the lipstick lesbians too. I missed this show on the first go around and have been enjoying it on disc from Netflix. I think my favorite episode involved the talking crime dog…

My husband just started watching the DVDs yesterday (I’d already seen it months ago), so I overheard the pilot just yesterday. There’s no suspicion; she flat out states she’s a lesbian.
(After Sharon has claimed to be a lesbian and then shows an obvious interest in another woman whom she leaves with.)
Jaye: So you’re a lesbian now.
Sharon (sardonic): Yes. Just now.

And, of course, the mother is played by Diana Scarwid, who was the adult Christine in _Mommy Dearest_, which adds another point of gay interest. You haven’t lived until you’ve been in a DC bar filled with macho leathermen who are reciting lines from _Mommy Dearest_, which is playing on the TV, in unison…

It’s my understanding that the second season would have Sharon finding out she’s pregnant- a seemingly immaculate conception.
What really happened is, the night that Sharon and her girlfriend had a big fight, Poorbitch (the ex-husband delivery guy) visited the girlfriend and they, apparently, had sex.
Then Sharon came over to apologize… and THEY had sex… and Sharon ended up preggers thanks to, uh, sloppy seconds. :eek:
Damn, I wish that show had survived.

There’s a hilarious scene involving the sister and her girlf, which I’ll throw in a spoiler box…
[SPOILER]The father is in an accident. His leg is broken, he’s whacked out on painkillers, and Sharon is roped into taking care of him for a night while the Mom is out of town. Sharon’s girlf comes to visit, and just as things are getting hot and heavy between them, the half-stoned Dad walks in the room. Sharon gathers herself together and leads the walking wounded back to his own bed.
The next day, a now-clear-headed father remarks, “Say, did you know our basic cable comes with lesbian porn?” [/SPOILER]

I thought it a bit odd that _Wonderfalls_ would be on LOGO… Sure, the sister was a lesbian but that matters for maybe a total of twelve minutes throught the whole season. Not that I’m complaining.

That’s the reason why I was asking the question to begin with. I was wondering if something a lot more lesbian than the thing with the sister came out later in the show. In the episode I saw on LOGO the other night, the cop mentioned something about the sister being a lesbian because she kept her fingernails trimmed short. That was all I saw.

But in conversation, I’ve heard a lot of people refer to Immaculate Conception meaning that a woman became pregnant without a man being involved. It’s a common figure of speech, but it’s wrong.

Does the DVD set include the real unaired pilot? I saw on an episode guide that the first episode FOX aired wasn’t the pilot. There were a few scenes taken directly out of the pilot, but they had to replace two actors before they started production on the show.

Come on, guys. I KNOW what Immaculate Conception means- heck, I’ve been a Doper for years now, and it’s come up often enough. I was just using it as a conversational shortcut. I suppose I could’ve said, “… a seemingly miraculous virgin pregnancy…”, but since most people think IC means that very thing, I took the shortcut. Is it really important that I misused the phrase, especially since the show very likely would’ve done exactly the same thing?
Jeez (short for “Jesus”, which is short for “Jesus Christ”, or more specifically “Jesus the Christ”, used here as a mild epithet).

I tried searching the LOGO site and the surprisingly difficult DISH Network site, and I couldn’t find any indication that DISH carries LOGO. Do any of you that get LOGO get it on DISH? If so, what channel?

Well, since we’re here, can I use this thread for a bit of discussion?
I rented the first disc from Netflix, then bought the series, and I almost regretted it during roughly the middle disc. I didn’t much like the episodes that didn’t really affect the core characters. Oh, she helped a housekeeper no one knew or cared about. I realize that we’re just supposed to be happy that good things are happening, and that Jaye is softening, but I don’t really think that was necessary, considering the character of Jaye was pretty likable and relatable as introduced. She’s the college-age Darlene Conner that we never really got to see. Seems weird to create a character like that, but to base a good portion of her show on what are basically random acts of kindness.
Oh yeah, one of the executive producers (or someone in some similar position of power) is openly gay. He says as much on one of the commentaries (I assume the pilot).

I think the specific episode you mention in the spoiler box is really pivotal. The family pulls together and bonds in a way they hadn’t in quite some time. Both Sharon and the dad stick their necks out for Jaye in a way she never expected they would. It’s a real growth moment. And the cow creamer is in that episode, so it’s great.
