There used to be a bar on the Mount Rose highway in Nevada called “The Institute of Higher Drinking”. ---

A couple from San Antonio: a bar called No Esta Aqui (I’m Not Here) and Wok-A-Mole. The latter was indeed a Chinese plus Mexican food joint, with a bit of Central Texas German. Not fusion, just a really long and confusing buffet. Oh, and to the disappointment of a friend of mine, they didn’t actually serve mole. ---

There was a shipping company in my area that everyone referred to as “Ess”. It was such the local fixture that it began to transition to a verb, “_I’ll ess that right on over to you_.” One day I was having lunch in the park while immersed in thought about this new challenge we were embarking on. You know how you are thinking hard about something and suddenly become aware of what is in your line of sight? There was one of their trucks, and I noticed what had gone right past me all those years. The logo was a big letter “S” (probably the founder’s last name) where the top curl was a quarter the size of the bottom curl. And laying in the curve of the bottom curl, the word “cargo”. Headslap, that was. But, really, pretty good speed for having a name like that. ---

Bangkok also used to have a bar called Moe’s, with a _Simpsons_ theme. No longer there, and I’m sure they were violating all sorts of copyrights.
