That’s ok to each his own when naming children. I didn’t know until I had my last child that I had named my children practically like the Waltons! UGH I HATE THAT SHOW! I chose for bilicial names. I’m sure that would seem odd to others too. Mary Lynn (instead of Mary Ellen)(it means gentle waters) Jason Aaron Matthew Benjamin ---

There is a long story as to why my daughter has Lynn as part of her first name and was not given a middle name. I too have a double name no middle name. It is way to personal to discuss in the Pit. Why don’t people use good old fashioned Biblical names any more? I mean, I’d love to see someone name their child Zadok or Methusalah. ---

I love the name Sidney! My friend just adopted a girl and named her Sydney after his uncle. To tell you the truth I don’t know exactly where (bookmarked) we found Jason. Other then I had read it was an angels name. Since he was an angel we named him Jason Michael (after another angel name) Corny I know. ---

Did you read it in the bible? I don’t understand the point of giving a baby a “biblical” name if you have never seen it in the bible. ---

Mia Farrow’s mother, Maureen O’Sullivan, was born in Ireland, so it seems quite natural to me that Mia would name her child Seamus. Seamus, by the way, is the Irish form of James. Pretty normal. ---

So, giving a girl a “boy’s” name is okay, but giving a boy a traditional Irish name is weird? Julie ---

Pretty normal. \*\* Exactly! As for American phonetics, try this people: Say ‘Shay-Muss’, the bad pronunciation. Then say ‘Shay-mus’ with emphasis on the first syllable and trailing off on the last syllable. (a lot closer to the correct pronunciation) Now say ‘James’. ---

I never said it was “weird” I simply expressed my opinion that it was odd and I didn’t care for it. That is MY opinion. I am Italian and I am positive people thought my maiden name was strange. They never could pronounce it and forget trying to spell it. To each his own. I’m more interested not in the fact what Mia’s new kids names are but WHY she renamed them and how they adjusted to it at their tender ages. As far as naming the adopted child with the spelling of a “male name” didn’t bother me. I actually prefer the spelling of the male version. I had a friend named Betsy (something) her maiden name was “Bailey” and since she was the only child she wanted the name to be carried on so she named her child (female) Bailey as the first name. I thought that was “different” Not “weird” just different. ---
