I eventually did figure this out on my own. For the longest time, however, I mis-parsed it as **Boy Typer An Ma** ; that is, a Southern pair of a small boy who typed what his Ma said.

I seem to recall him once explaining his username, where he said he got it from his school days in the 80s, his friends just started calling him that and he didn’t know why.
And that’s all he said.
I think we were supposed to realise that he was joking, he knew damn well why, and where it came from.

I, too, thought it had something to do with a wookie in a pub, but one night I was watching some old SNL clips on Yahoo Screen and had such a lightbulb moment I almost knocked my laptop onto the floor. 😃
Then I laughed like crazy, thanks for that, WOOKIN. 🙂

I’m pretty sure I’ll miss the edit window but I want to add to my post. What I didn’t include is that when I was looking at those old SNL clips, I was dealing with the reality of having cancer as well as the worsening pain that came along with it. Those old clips really helped, and when I saw the Eddie Murphy clip with WOOKINPANUB, that was the first time I’d laughed out loud in a couple _weeks_.
You never know how you might touch someone. 🙂 Thanks again.
That was all exactly a year ago and I had a major surgery, but I’m fine now. Certainly enjoying THIS spring and summer as I didn’t have them last year!

I had/have no clue what a ranma might be, so I was stuck on exactly what you said: **Boy Typer An Ma** ; that is, a Southern pair of a small boy who typed what his Ma said.
(Yes, I did see the post up-thread that explained a Ranma as some comic book or RPG character / critter.)

Weird. I spelled it mercotian on Google, and then Google asked me if I meant “Mercotan” (as well as Mercutian–someone from Mercury). Yet all the links refer to Qadgop.
I just assume he’s an alien from the planet Mercota, myself. And now I’ll Skinamarnk back out of here.

I never understood **WOOKINPANUB** , and I’m not sure I do now. But I didn’t get the letters all fouled up; I had them all right in my head but it just formed an incomprehensible but pronounceable acronynm.
I’ve always thought it’s pronounced wuh-Kin-pe-NOOB where the “wuh” is like a dog’s woof and the “pe” is really a schwa.
