One of the advantages of my first three is that if they don’t turn up much, there are very few consonant _combinations_ left. It was true the other day with WEDGE, and true again today with WACKY. K was the only remaining consonant I could see that would work with the C I had, and things fell into place from there. ---

As an aside, I’ve noticed that they recently allowed me to use CHINK as a guess, although I suppose it is still unlikely to be the actual answer. PANTO LARES MAFIC WACKY ---

But upon further consideration, I burned off three consonants and had the chance to try three more on the next guess, so staying in hard mode worked out ok. Not my favorite answer ever, though.
