Then my brain said no, a more common consonant and another vowel would be smarter. Stupid brain. At least I missed SLEEP, which helped me tap in the birdie. (It also could have been SHELF, which I didn’t see either, so I’ll cop to being a little lucky.) ---

Was just fishing for letters in my second and third guesses - didn’t have much to go on even after 2 guesses. I thought for sure I had it with my fourth guess, but no such luck. For my fifth, I think there were no other possibilities besides the solution. ---
