> This was an interesting one. After my first word, there were the KNACK/KNAVE pair, there was CHAIN, there was the BRAIN/DRAIN/GRAIN/BRAWN/DRAWN/PRAWN complex, and of those words, only DRAIN had been a solution. (Also past solutions: AGAIN and YEARN, which I overlooked entirely.)

> So I needed a sleuth word at 2 that would tell me which group I was in, and narrow down the big group. I hated to waste the N of BRINK, but it did everything I wanted it to do: the R and K eliminated (or would have confirmed) the two groups, and the B and I would have narrowed down the big group to probably one word, possibly two at most. And the color of the K would have distinguished between the two KN words. So it was a damned good sleuth word! And I was left with CHAIN as the solution.
