One of my least favorite puzzles. I saw the trap and found it very tedious going through the options. I soon realized that there were a lot more options for the first letter than for the fourth and the C was probably the most common since it could be used in multiple words for both. So I grabbed a random word with a C. I seriously hate any one that makes me feel I have to get out a paper and pen and write down the options.

Choosing between BRACE and GRACE, my rationale was simple: itβs Christmas Eve, dammit, Iβm going with GRACE. π
I personally enjoy the Wordles that have me getting out pen and paper and figuring things out there. (Todayβs wasnβt one of those for me; Iβm responding to something psychobunny said.) Yesterday, for instance, I had 9 possibilities after my starting word, and writing them down helped me come up with a sleuth word that would enable me to tell me which of the nine was the solution. That was fun!
FWIW, responding to a different comment, I would hardly call it a βtrapβ when youβve narrowed it down to two possible solutions that you have to choose between. The shape ainβt the essence.

Same starting word as @Aspenglow. Hard mode may actually have been an advantage here (GRACE was the first word I saw), but the number of options for this trap had me reluctant to try for the deuce.
There was no perfect sleuth word, but BUCKS narrowed it down enough to make a good guess for birdie. Iβm happy.

Nearly didnβt get this one. It was another one where I should have taken the time to write out the options but instead tried eliminating common letters and combinations and threw in BOOZE because that is a word I commonly miss on these games. While I havenβt looked to see what other options I missed, Iβm pretty sure I got lucky again.

Before starting I was positive the answer was going to be merry, but decided to play it straight. When plant returned nothing I almost went straight to merry, but figured score wouldnβt hurt and itβs the proper play by my strategy. Imagine my surprise at seeing the results.
As far as I can tell, there were remarkably few options after two. I saw biome and diode pretty quickly, but didnβt think either would be answers. Eventually I saw evoke, and I see on preview that booze would have fit as well. I see nothing else, which probably means thereβs like five other options.
Of the answers I mentioned, booze has already been an answer and surprisingly enough biome has as well. I guess that puts diode into play for the future.

There really wasnβt much left after 2, which Scoredle confirmed afterwards. Iβm just glad they didnβt try to make IXOYE the solution, since itβs not, you know, an actual _word_.
