I admire how systematic some of you are. My thought process is so much more chaotic. It goes something like this:
Just the R? Need vowels and at least one good consonant ( L, N or S).
OK, probably two E. There must be a bunch of options with xExER. Need the N or S. Try a random guess.
The two Es are probably together. Still want to try an S. There are probably a lot of options for xxEER. Iβm seeing FREER, but would go for the S.
PANIC PANIC PANIC. Only two guesses left and I need ExxER. Too many letters left. Do I see any double letters that would work? EMBER at least gets me two new letters.
PHEW.

I spent way too much time coming up with possible answers after 2, coming up with a little over 20 over the course of the day. Only a couple could be ruled out with the previous answers list. I was left with exactly 20. I would have kept looking but I was down to the final hour of the day.
The three most common letters in those 20 possibilities were d, i and f. Unfortunately, fried β which had not been used before, and is valid because the ED changes the Y to an I β left me with three possible ways to still have two answers on the board. And of course the answer was one of those: after fried I still had buyer and ember on the board. Couldnβt even trust the B, so just blindly guessed and got lucky.
Itβs good that these kind of slogs are few and far between.
EDIT: Reading everybody elseβs, I didnβt even see umber.
