Yesterday I played late in the day and after alcohol. I played fast and loose, and was lucky to score a five.  
Today was better.

I wonder what it means that I found APART before STARK but tried STARK first to eliminate more potential words, and I’m happier with the 3 than what would have been a 2…?

Saw and liked perch and then perky, but both have been answers. Then I started thinking double letter, but seconds after seeing piper I also saw piker. I liked both but I liked piker a lot more, and was pretty convinced that was going to be the answer. Fortunately I saw piper first, and going with the first thing I see is one of my stricter rules.

Exactly the sort of puzzle I hate. After guess two and the trap, I went through all the letters and came up with 21 options. I chose the most common for a sleuth word and had four options left with the P (PIKER, PIPER, VIPER and WIPER). VIPER narrowed it down to two and I guess right for the five.If I had played my usual way ( random guessing) I probably would have lost.

A very lucky 4. After 3, PIPER popped into my head, and I figured it would at least tell me where my yellows were (or weren’t). Per @psychobunny, it could’ve also been PIKER, VIPER, or WIPER (RIPER had already been used); if it had been one of the latter two, a wrong guess on 5 would have gotten me a 6.
