You’ve seen it, just not by itself. Metropolis, Annapolis, Indianapolis, etc. IMHO, someone who uses it as a word all by itself outside a scholarly publication is being seriously snooty. Scoredle also had ‘pubis’ as a possibility, but it sounds like Wordlebot says that’s not on the list. Can’t say I’m surprised. ---
