A considerable bit of luck on 3 - I had about 10 prospective solutions, and I went with INNER because it was the one that would maximize my chances of identifying the actual solution and get a 4.

I’d already started using SLANT as my starting word by then, and I couldn’t have asked for an easier 2. 🙂
