SALET — 3 yellows, no greens: over 30 or 40 possibilities. I took a stab with APPLE.
APPLE — as QMatic said, very few words ending in ALE

FLARE
WHALE
Lucky three!
FROZE → Thought I was gonna strike out there for a second. Too many possibilities with a terminal E, but I was hoping for one with 3 common consonants. Couldn’t find one; almost went with CHIDE but settled on a repeat
TITHE → The repeat was no good, but the H is nice. Put it in second and see what goes around it
SHAPE → Not much can go in front of that H. W is about all I can see left
WHALE
Scoredle says I should have tried CHAVE or CHACE. Scoredle has a different idea of what a “common English word” is than I.
And it doubles as a PSA about cetacean safety!

WHALE
Would’ve had an easy 3 if I’d gone with my usual second word. But what the hey, I had a good time with the L bouncing all over the place. Sometimes you just gotta have fun even if it costs you an extra guess.

AUDIT

WHALE
Scordle says FLARE was a better third guess. Maybe it was, but I got focused on an -ALE ending, and WHALE just fell right in.
AUDIT’s average improves from 4.18 to 4.08.
I see I’m in good company today with the 3s!

WHALE
WordleBot surprised me by saying that WHALE was the only available word after my second try. There really are very few 5-letter words that end in --ALE, I guess!
I feel clever. I guess the first word is important! Got lucky.
Three is the name of the game; the name of today’s game is “three”.

ELAND
WHALE
And yet another WordleBot complaint, it rated ELAND as low on skill, even though it eliminated every other solution.
A number of these guesses have me thinking of the days when WHALE was more common as a food, like IDEAL PLATE WHALE or STALE WHALE. Not that I remember those days, but I’ve read about them.
Not so lucky this time.
