Eh, it’s fine that we don’t all have to agree on how we like to play. I got an ace once, and it was fun, I guess, but then it sort of cheats you out of actually playing the game. I really enjoy @SunUp’s method of starting with the previous day’s solution, even if it precludes ever scoring an ace. That sort of spurred my idea of having a random word generator pick my starter each day. No, it doesn’t guarantee the most optimal letters, but it can present different sorts of challenges, and to me, helps keep the game from getting stale. ---

That’s an interesting and fun approach. But I happen to agree with @kaylasdad99 . I pick a starting word that has not been a previous Wordle solution and also is one that knocks out frequently used letters. But I go a bit farther and select 3 starting words and I go with those unless that day’s puzzle reveals some good results, and then I’ll pivot from my 3 words. My 3 starting words ideally exhaust 15 unique letters from the most frequently used letters and also A E I O U Y. For example my current 3 starting words are: STEAK, COLIN, UPDRY. Words 2 and 3 are not likely to be a Wordle solution but they serve my purposes. Before that, my previous starting words were: LEAST BOUND PRIVY. But on 2025-09-01 that Wordle was LEAST, so I’ve been using 3 new words since then. It’s always nice to get a 1! ---
