I convinced myself of \_OVEY before considering enough alternatives. Still, Scordle liked LOVEY better than ENVOY as a second guess, and I’m always happy with a birdie. ---

It can’t be STORY, since the Y is gone, I like the O in the middle, might be the sole vowel; SNORT is out, so it looks like > **S** H **ORN** β†’ Ah, so close > **SWORN** > SCORN was also possible; especially if it had been in fact the solution and I missed it completely, I would have been worthy of it. The followup guess that I made was pretty solid, Scoredle rates it 5/447, and I suspect it would have been first or second if the algorithm threw out the regular plurals. Scoredle’s followup puts it into the exact same place as mine; with its better knowledge of the possibles, it goes the distance in the trap, ending with a bogey. ---
