Upon “upgrading” to WP Office X8 (from 7), I now cannot open any Excel or Word file (double clicking the file), without Quattro Pro or Word respectively opening the file instead. In doing so, convoluting the formatting immensely. Anyone know how to disarm this frustrating overule by Corel? Corel tells me to open each indivudual file by right clicking and using “open as.” Really don’t want to have to do that with the plethora of Microsoft Office files on the same laptop. Using Window 7 Professional, 64 bit on a PC.
HELP!

So you have, in fact, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel installed and want to associate their file types with the original applications again?

If Mops is correct then you do this:

> **[Set or Change File Associations & Extensions in Windows 11/10](https://www.thewindowsclub.com/change-file-associations-windows)**
>
> Learn how to change, restore, set or fix change file associations and extensions in Windows, using Control Panel or Types free tool.

That’s always annoying. When you updated WP Office X8 decided to associate itself with the file types, might have been a setting through the update process or part of a larger one.

But, why do yo have both? Also, surprised this product is still around.

There are some fields (legal, mainly) where WordPerfect still has users. For years, it was because WP allowed a few precise formatting controls that Word didn’t (or didn’t as easily). You still needed both, because documents from outside sources would often be doc or docx format. Now, I would assume it’s mainly needed for legacy document support.

Curious what OP’s use case is.
