**Dungarees** and **trousers** just don’t sound like something an adult should be wearing.

There are also plenty of management buzzwords I hate, but the OP asked for ones we hate for _no_ reason.

I can deal with “huh”, but what REALLY makes me want to slap the writer silly is when a person uses **hanh?** - aaah, God, I feel itchy just typing it. It makes the person _physically sound_ dumb, even though I’m just reading the word.

Ick, ick, ick.

**lover**. I just think it’s tacky when used to describe a gay relationship, and even more tacky when used to describe a heterosexual relationship.

**smegma**. A disgusting word to describe a disgusting thing.

The word that beings with an **f** and ends with a **t** that’s used to describe flatulence. I can’t say it. I can’t even bring myself to type it.

**bandwidth** when used in reference to human resources. “We don’t have the bandwidth to complete the project on time.”

**FAQ** pronounced “Fack” as opposed to Eff A Cue. Too hipster geek for me. What’s next, AOL pronounced “A-ole”?

The thread subject said “… for no reason.” Oops. I gave reasons. Ah, well.

**Yogurt** - it sounds like the way vomiting sounds.

**Scrod** - it sounds like a venereal disease.

The general feeling in the computer world is that any acronym that can be pronounced should be pronounced. “Fack” has one syllable. “Eff a Cue” has three. It’s just easier.

However, I do agree it can get ridiculous. Consider “GUI” (Graphical User Interface), which many people pronounce “gooey.” Makes me cringe.

Me too!! I think it may becaue the rs are too close together. I can’t saw brewery or thesaurus either. I have no idea why.

I absolutely loathe the word **cocoa** , but only when used in place of “hot chocolate.”

A few others:
frankly - every time someone says the word “frankly,” or even worse “quite frankly” my bullshit alarm starts blaring.

noted, as in “Mr. Smith noted that his next door neighbor had
been burying dead kittens underneath his porch.”

and my personal least favorite:

**normalcy**

I have to admit… I say “Eff a Cue,” but I say “gooey.”

And further to that, we use “ETA” (estimated time of arrival) when we want to know when something will be ready. If anyone EVER says “ehtta,” I’ll scream. 😛

**clinic** and **obsequious**

hated clinic for years, dunno why, but obsequious sounds like it should describe something growing on the 4 month old leftovers in the fridge.

**Tenacious** is really starting to get on my nerves. (Oh hell, it’s _been_ on my nerves for quite some time now.)

And don’t get me started on **Feb_Yoo_ary**. AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!! Talk about dumbing down!

Uh-oh! I feel a fit of violence coming on. I’m thinking about **Li_berry_** (Block that thought, block that thought, block that thoughtJ)

My father hates **imminent** and shudders everytime he hears it.

Another vote for “brewery” here. Its one of those words that seems incredibly difficult to pronounce for some reason…

…same thing with “phenomenal”!

Also I cant stand when people pronounce “ask” as “a-r-k-s” !

Actually, I was moderating a Middle School spelling test, and I had to pronounce the words.

**Brewery** was one of the words on the list. I hate it. It was the same problem as \*\*whisperer[/]b. _shudder_

Also, I’ve disliked **consternation** forever. It just sounds…so _English_.

Oh well. Down with **brewery**.
