The show _Alias_ was particularly guilty of this, as in, “Sloane has tasked Sydney to extract the microchip.” So annoying. I once saw the verb “visioning” on a poster. I agree with ‘blogosphere’ (or indeed ‘blog’ at all - it’s a fucking diary, or a webpage, make up your mind). And ‘whilst’, the least necessary word in the world. You’re talking about a new use of the word, whereas ‘Sydney was tasked by the extraction procedure’ would fit with historical usage. ---

Lately, I’ve been seeing a commercial for Susquehanna bank, and the tagline is: “Susquehanna: a smarter way to money” Ack! Makes my ears bleed every time I hear it (but not literally 😛 ) ---

“Proactive” is still on my list. And there’s a tv weatherguy in these parts who likes to use the phrase “liquid precipitation.” I guess “rain” isn’t good enough for him. By the way, does anyone remember when “medicine” became “medication?” ---

A second on “impact” when “affect” is meant. Bad enough itself, it has now spawned the adjective “impactful”. “Grow” as in “grow your business” or “grow your money”. Do your growing your own damn self, don’t inflict it on inanimate objects. (OK, you can grow houseplants. But that’s it.) ---

The expression “quality time” really annoys me, like when someone says that they need to spend quality time with the kids. You either play with them, or you don’t. Another white suburban mom thing is the word “fun” used out of context. For example; “I like your shirt - it’s so fun”, or “That walpaper is such a fun pattern”. :rolleyes: ---

“Notorious” or “notoriety” used synonymously with “famous”. It has a negative connotation, dammit! When I was a kid, I hated “pregnant” so much I couldn’t say it. No, I don’t have any kids (big surprise, eh?). ---
