SG used to work 10-2 5 days a week. My boss let him change his schedule because he charmed her into it and she didn’t have to work with him. After what he pulled on her while I was in Texas, she is really regreting her decision, but is too spineless to make him change back. That would show lack of leadership or something.

YES!!! My problems are all solved now 🙂

You are SO smart!!!

> I seriously do not understand why such a thing as a hiring freeze like this exists. I can see putting a moratorium on hiring \*new \*employees, or on replacing people who have redundant positions, but to not have a provision for replacing workers in essential roles who are terminated \*for cause \*seems to me to be \*incredibly \*short-sighted.

You get no arguments from me on this.

Its even worse, though. The peons don’t get replaced, so the other peons have to do extra work. When an administrative assistant to one of the Board of Supervisors leaves, suddenly they manage to find a way to make an exception.

The state is changing how elected officials are paid and their retirement and 2 promptly retired, then got hired back part time because their knowledge and expertise are so valuable. I could spend a LOT of time in the Workplace Rants on this, but it makes me so angry that I’d probably bite pieces out of my keyboard.

> So you have never experienced how “Gubmint Hiring” works. Lucky you!

Right on one!

On Tuesday, I went to pick up 30 boxes from a building 3 miles away. As I was leaving, I told SG that I was doing the pick up because I had to start documenting how long it took and that he needed to listen for the door. One of the improvements the warehouse has gotten because of the hiring freeze is bells all over the warehouse because there is no guarentee that someone will be up front. Of course SG instantly went up front to be sure he could hear the bell. Whatever.

I had to pick the boxes up from a conference room in the back of the building and the conference room was being used, so that meant that everytime I went back for another load, I had to wait for people to get up and move out of my way. This happens, nobody complains. To be honest, they are so happy that I’m picking their boxes up that it takes longer because they all have to make “I’m sorry for being in the way” noises, I have to make “I’m sorry for bothering you” noises and then listen to their “Oh, no, we are so happy to see you”, etc.

It took me 40 minutes.

Today, I sent SG to the same place to pick up 20 boxes that were stacked by the door in the front. I told him that it shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes because it was such an easy pickup. It took him an hour and 10 minutes. When I asked why it took so long, SG said he had to make a restroom stop.:smack:

I’m documenting everything. I’m spending more time babysitting SG than I am getting productive work done. My boss is spending more time discussing SG with HR than doing her work.

At least people here are being entertained.

PS. Its a good thing that we don’t have to share a restroom or the shouting/stabbity thing would have happened a long time ago.

The cleaning guys come in twice a week and they leave 2 unopened rolls of toilet paper in each (single seat for ladies, one sit down, one stand up stall in the men’s) restroom. I’m not talking about triple-ply Charmin here, I’m talking about the single-ply scratchy bought from the lowest bidder stuff. At least once a week, a very hurried, embarressed looking Facility guy finds me to ask if there is any extra toilet paper.

The cleaning guys also leave an extra package of those ugly scratchy folded paper towels. I often see the Facility guys walk out of the men’s room holding their wet hands up until they get to the break room so they can find paper towels.

If there is a wife, I feel very, very sorry for her.

The town has three, count 'em, three suits against those pieces of shit right now and we hire them again?” Well, because someone decided that, in order to cut costs, all jobs must be assigned to the lowest bidder - even if actual costs will be a lot higher due to miscalculations, lousy work and a string of suits.

So, you live in my area, right. Do you want to carpool? I promise to not smoke in the car and we can point and laugh at people who don’t get that the lottery is a tax on the stupid while SG pouts in the back seat. 🆒

I have a neighbour like this. Do something reasonable for her and she asks for twice as much next time – usually five minutes later. Shouting “Go home, leave me the fuck alone.” really is the only way to make her stop and I hate doing it.

I was going to say something very much like this, too. I see one massive user, and two doormat enablers. I can’t say I’m terribly entertained by the stories of such crappy behaviour and the people who not only let him get away with his shit, but seem to go out of their way to let him encroach further and further.

Okay, what would you suggest? They can’t fire him. If they can’t fire him, then all the boundary-setting rules/requirements/demands are pretty hard to enforce. You can yell “Stay the fuck away from my food!” and he’ll still steal it when no one is looking. After all, if he’s caught he can’t be fired anyway. If the police come and cart him off the place is just as screwed because they aren’t allowed to replace him. He can be a total shit with impunity.

So let’s see…

Put a lock on the fridge so he can’t steal any food? Get a [cable lock](http://bikereviews.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/kryptonite-mini-7-u-lock-kryptoflex-cable.jpg) (the wirey one) to lock up all the toilet paper? But chances are he’d just unroll the entire roll into a bag to steal it that way.

The only workable solution I can think of, is that if the OP’s place _really_ only needs a warm body from time to time, get a student volunteer/intern to prop up in a chair for a few hours a day. Then kill him and bury the body behind the casino.

Wait, when did you move to Spain? I’m ok with you smoking in the car so long as I can ask you to put it out if my sinuses are being specially cranky.

As an aside and if anybody gives a shit, our current pacific protests (I think it’s being called the 11-M movement) aren’t caused by the government’s cost-cutting measures but rather by the lack thereof… the lack of cost-cutting measures impinging upon their pockets, that is. They cut the salaries of government workers, they cut the unemployment benefits of regular workers (but not the “special agricultural workers subsidy”), they cut on grants and decide that anything must go to the lowest bidder disregarding quality (leading to such things as mistranslated university-entrance exams, where the mistake made a problem worth 25% of the grade impossible to solve), but they’re still retiring on full salary, allowed to collect pay from the jobs they’re “on leave” from while collecting the one from warming seats in Parliament… oh yeah, gotta love “austerity measures”!

The work stuff is somewhat out of their control (but I’m having a hard time believing that no one can do anything to reduce the impact that this waste of skin has on the rest of the office), but the after-hours stuff? That’s not being charitable, that’s enabling a user.

I do like your idea about a volunteer or a student to replace his useless ass. 🙂

Y’know, with a holiday weekend to work with, I’d have thought \*\*flatlined \*\*would have been in here telling us more horror stories of SG and the Fourth of July. Did Entitled Boy think \*\*flatlined \*\*should drive him to a grocery store so he could get burgers for the day? Maybe he thought he should be able to buy and set off fireworks at the warehouse as their own personal, buddy buddy celebration? Perhaps he thought Tony should come and bring a picnic lunch for his buddy.

C’mon girl, give. 😉
