If they can hold on and win the group they actually could have a decent bracket to make a deep run. Germany could end up with Brazil in the round of 16. Would completely screw my bracket predictions, but would be a fun rematch. Chicharito probably deserved a penalty too. Although perhaps that foul stared outside the box? ---

Holden again inconsistent on what he thinks is a foul. Doesn’t go to VAR though and the game is tied. ---

Switzerland equalizes! After a corner, Zuber scores, 5 minutes into the 2nd half. However, the Brazilians complained that the Swiss was pushing a Brazilian player. Nonetheless, the goal stands. Game over! And it is Brazil 1-Switzerland 1. Some will say that the referee did not do his job properly. I have no opinion on that. This World Cup so far has had a big heaping serving of surprises! Iceland ties against Argentina, Mexico wins against Germany, and Switzerland ties against Brazil. The juggernauts should have been able to make short work of the theoretically much weaker teams they confronted. Is this a case of widespread overconfidence in the part of the “great powers”, who underestimate their opponents until they get a big upset and then it is too late? ---

Not even through all the first games and I have no idea what’s going on. Only Spain were convincing. Portugal and Mexico did what they needed to do, but I don’t think either has the quality to win 4 tough games in a row. However, in half the bracket you could possibly get Mexico playing Serbia then Colombia then Portugal and Portugal playing Russia, then Denmark, then Mexico. The second round of games will clarify what to believe. ---

Mexico is likely to have a letdown against S Korea. It happens in many sports after a huge upset. Germany has no walk over with Sweden. If they draw they might not qualify for the round of 16.
