No doubt about it, Johnny G was a brilliant player, could land the ball on a sixpence from 40 yards, and even catch the striker on the right stride to collect it. Pity about Harte’s penalty. All that fuss about Italians being cheated out of a tournament, yet it all goes very quiet from that direction when you mention Leeds versus a certain Italian club where the referee was found to have accepted ‘gifts’. The UEFA inquiry banned that referee from any further participation in the sport, but the name on the trophy is still Juventus. We all know that some of the best players in the England never get a game for the national side, your face has to fit in, Matt Letissier should have been a mainstay of our midfield, but instead we chose that useless git, Glen Hoddle who only ever had one decent game for England, but every time he did play the commentators would tell us just how great he played for Tottenham, (as if I give a stuff about Tottenham), and what did Spurs win whilst Hoddle was playing ? Couple of FA cups and a UEFA cup, no league of course, no European Cup, and it was their Argentine contingent that made the most telling contributions to the small bit of success that Spurs had. Hoddle, one of Englands great midfielders ! Don’t make me laugh!! ---

I would like to thank the committee for awarding me this lovely “Very Old Nuns” award for the successful thwarting of Impure Thoughts. Le Tissier was one of the most brilliant players we ever had. It’s a fucking travesty he wasn’t an automatic bloody choice. Le Tiss was a genius, and a top bloke by many accounts, too. ---

Agreed about Le Tissier, as long as you don’t name him in any of your conspiracy theories 😉 Slag off Hoddle all you want, I don’t care, as long as no one is slagging off the Waddler. If you do, you’ll have to argue with my fist. [waves fist drunkenly. almost falls down] ---

I know that if I got the money that Rivaldo and Co got then I’d be bloody brilliant too, and I wouldn’t fall over every time my hair got messy. They go on all about them wonderful Brazilian goals from outside the box, taken on the volley and curving delightfully away from the goallie but tell you what (“no, what ? as if we care anyway, you’re getting pissed now”) **I’LL TELL YOU WHAT** It all looks so good on the news highlights but when you see the game itself you notice that for every shot on target, there are dozens that go into orbit, go wide, hit another player and go out, and tamely plant themselves into the goalkeeprs gloves, no-one seems to mention these, its a case of hit a goal and be a hero or miss by a mile and everyone forgets, but I don’t. :::slumps off stool::::: thud!!! ---
