Also wrong. Good guess, though.

**Siam Sam** , IIRC the Great Mutiny was in 1857, as earlier guessed.

**Tapioca Dextrin** , correct, but what does SOE stand for?

1. This German general is perhaps best known for his command of the Afrika Korps.
2. English freebooters called their raids on Spanish shipping “\_\_\_\_\_\_ the Spanish king’s \_\_\_\_\_\_.”
3. How was Kaiser Wilhelm II physically deformed?
4. This Spanish hero allegedly was lashed to his horse after he died, to inspire his troops.
5. This native woman notoriously assisted Cortes in his conquest of the Aztecs.

Adding some questions that I don’t believe we’ve asked:

1. Who, in French politics, was “the man on the white horse?”

2. I’ve mentioned the Liberal Unionists in an earlier question; Why did they break away from the Liberal Party of the United Kingdom?

3. For most of 1919, a celebrity was head of government of a European state. Name him, where his celebrity came from, and the country.

4. Name the last new man (i.e., not counting previous incumbents) to serve as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from the House of Lords.

5. The earliest surviving television broadcasts come from what country, and use what type of broadcasting system?

1. Correct.

2. Correct.

3. I should have phrased the question better. As Douglas-Home left the House of Lords more or less immediately after becoming Prime Minister, he wasn’t what I was thinking of. I meant someone in the House of Lords who made no attempt to leave the House of Lords.
