> So what’s up with this “Harvest Festival”? My calendar says it started yesterday (Sunday) and runs through Saturday, but I didn’t see any sign of a “Harvest Festival” anywhere in the game. And I noticed it’s not listed among the other holidays in the Achievements window.

It’s the least involved holiday WoW has, apparently. It’s a takeoff of Thanksgiving and such, but as far as I can tell there’s only one quest and no achievement. There’s tables set up between Orgrimmar’s gates and the Brewfest tents with food and hero ghosts wandering around, and there’s a questgiver out there that gives you a quest to go honor Grom Hellscream (for Allies, it’s Uther Lightbringer), and in return you get a lore book.

ETA: Not the US Thanksgiving, but Canada’s Thanksgiving and Asian harvest festivals. The US Thanksgiving holiday is Pilgrim’s Bounty. My bad.

> So what do you do when you like the guild you’re in but don’t like the way it’s being run?

Well, the first thing is get the officers and guildmaster on the line. Preferably a phone call, or at least text chat _off_ the game.

You should lay out your concerns, and I would emphasize that raid ranking should be per _character_ if people are going to fiddle with a dozen alts. You might also suggest a fix for raid slots, and encourage them to add another raid, or even limit the raid slots available for alts. It depends on the leadership, but they may see the same problem. Odds are that they’ve benefited the msot from the new “kinder” policy, but I bet several will agree.

This may explode in your face, but that['s unlikely. It could also lead to things getting much better. If it doesn’t, then the guild is headed into the dirt anyway.

That all said, I’m not an experienced guildie. I joined one briefly, but bailed when in the first 48 hours after joining faced a nonstop guild chat of whining and bitter complaining about a popular guildie who left, then rejoined with his new alt but nobody new it, then showed off all the new gear that his new guild helped him get, then mocked all his foes, then left. Since the guildies were only marginally better-acting than he, I left on the spot and never said a word to any of them ever again.

I got kind of freaked out when I saw that Harvest Festival was beginning yesterday; I’d confused it with Pilgrim’s Bounty, and was somewhat upset that I wouldn’t be able to complete everything (I’m moving this week, so have little to no computer access at home) in one week. Sure, there’s nothing attached to it now (aside from some directly-associated achievements), but that could change! Not bothering with holiday stuff almost got me in trouble with the Brewfest stuff, since I didn’t bother with it at all (aside from buying the pet) last year (I was similarly afraid I wouldn’t be able to complete all the Brewfest stuff this time around, what with the impending move and all).

But since Harvest Festival is the stepchild of holiday events, I can blow it off in good conscience. And I’ll still be able to do the Pilgrim’s Bounty stuff and get my pet turkey, if nothing else 😛

Is anybody else a little bit creeped out by the concept of the new Pilgrim’s Bounty holiday, by the way? I mean, who the hell are the pilgrims supposed to be? Are we commemorating Humans moving into Kalimdor? Orcs moving into this world from Draenor? The Burning Legion trying to set up shop? I can’t see any option where \*\*all \*\*races would be being terribly excited.

The 310% speed is very nice; I will actually use this instead of flight form for long trips now.

> And congrats on all those exalted reputations! I can’t imagine doing that. I’ve got several of the Northrend factions to exalted, but I’m not even exalted with the other Horde races yet let alone all those BC and Old World factions.

Thanks! It’s been less painful than I expected thus far. The 40th faction is the one that’s going to be a huge pain; my options are between Darkmoon Faire, Warsong Outriders, and The Defilers, really. Given the state of BG play these days, the latter two would be too much to bear, so I’m going with Darkmoon Faire, which will be doable, just incredibly expensive. It will give me incentive to do all my dailies, I guess…

The holiday events come across to me as very like Discworld. You have this other world with a mix of races in a roughly medieval civilization, and occasionally an idea or concept from Our World makes its way into Their World, either by magic or by coincidence. For a short while the population is _consumed_ with this New Thing, and then the concept leaves and people get on with their lives as they were before, or at the very least they settle down and accept the new thing into their lives without so much fuss.

In Discworld you had Cinema, Music With Rocks In It, and other brief looks at our world, along with less-brief things like the post office, the printing press and rise of the newspaper, and so on. In Azeroth you have brief looks like the holiday events, with less-brief things like the motorcycles and other steampunk analogs to real-world tech.

ETA: I realized I left the _point_ out of this post. :smack: What I’m getting at is that to me, Pilgrim’s Bounty doesn’t make sense and it doesn’t necessarily have to; it’s just a wild fancy the Azerothians get that happens to coincide with our world.

But in the Discworld analogy (nice one, btw), there’s an attempt to map the thing onto the new layout. It makes sense (you know, more or less) in context. But it’s straight-up called **Pilgrim’s** Bounty in WoW, which means that **some** body has to be the pilgrims.

So, some sort of Thanksgiving-ish festival? Fine, no problem. Something explicitly referred to as Pilgrim’s Bountry? You need pilgrims.

WAG: Some kind of “hooray, we have a new home” celebration, like the orcs in Orgrimmar (and/or the trolls), and gnomes in Stormwind.

Whoa, flying on a flying carpet is quite an adventure when you’re Totally Smashed! I don’t think I’ve ever before managed to fly straight up while pressing the “Forward” key (seriously, the carpet was perfectly vertical!)

I don’t quite get, though, how _animal_ mounts manage to weave all over the place when I’m drunk, not them.

I’m kind of feeling bummed about my role in the game at the moment. Part of it is that the people I talk to ingame regularly are from both buckets (casual players who’re fine with killing things until dead, and more serious players who’re interested in improving their performance – not necessarily hardcore raider types). This means that it makes my head hurt when the two types start getting into discussions since I usually wind up feeling torn between the opposing viewpoints.

I mean, I enjoy running the numbers and looking for ways to improve my performance and running heroics. But the next step for me is 10mans, and my guild doesn’t have people who’re prepared for that. So I’d be pugging, and as pure ranged DPS, I’m not exactly in demand. 😛

Meh.

I think I’m going to step back from my main except for Brewfest and the H daily for a while, and start working on my hpriest again. She’s 40 and could use the love – I find myself missing healing since that’s been more relaxing for me than obsessively watching my cooldowns.

Point. **Engaging Lore Bullshit Justification Routine** :
Humans: Refugees found a home in Stormwind after the last war
Night Elves: Found a home in Teldrassil
Gnomes: Exiles found a home in Ironforge
Draenei: Found a home on Azeroth
Dwarves: Will take any excuse for drinking 😃
Orcs and Trolls: Found a home in Durotar
Tauren: Found a home in Mulgore
Forsaken: Um…I guess they found a home in Lordaeron, but my guess is they only bother joining in the celebration to keep the Horde off its guard.
Blood Elves: **Error! Error! LBJR Aborted!**

The patch notes for 3.2.0 say

# Swift Flight Form: Druids who have acquired a mount able to go 310% flight speed will now also go that speed while in this form.

So you shouldn’t have to mount on the drake to get the speed.

No, they’re very definitely weaving. If I try to enter Orgrimmar from Brewfest without constantly correcting my direction, I’d easily slam into the walls instead of going through.

So I went to WPL to do the tribute to Uther thing, and while I was at Chillwind Camp I grabbed the quest from that Barov dude to go into Scholomance (Again! At least this time I can disenchant all the useless crap I pick up in there.) and recover the various deeds. It was the only quest there I hadn’t done.

Geez, those Barovs must have been some rich mofos … they owned Brill, Tarren Mill, Southshore, Caer Darrow …

And Lord Barov there at Chillwind … what a prick. I recover his deeds, assassinate his brother, and then he hands me my reward and says, “Remove yourself from my sight, peasant.”

ETA: Yay! Two quests closer to Loremaster of Eastern Kingdoms! 656 down, 44 to go!
