About four or five days (usually I’d run around and mine for about an hour or so a night). Remember that you should be able to smelt thorium to skill up, too. It should be midyellow for you at this point.

Everyone else could get reasonable DPS gear or FR gear out of Dire Maul or BRD, but tank gear had to come from raiding. If the tanks didn’t have the gear, you simply wouldn’t be killing the boss. If a random warlock out of your 30 DPS was a little low on FR, nobody cared.

Sorry, if a cloth pattern exists and the mats drop for it, I am putting MY time and effort into the raid, I should be able to benefit from it as well. I am not a bot, I am a player, and I deserve equal respect. It is called _sharing_ and hopefully you learned how to do it in kindergarden. Otherwise, play a freaking nintendo and stay the hell in your own little world where every single resource is yours alone.

That really is the tough zone for ore gathering … mrAru suffered working his way through it. All you can do is perservere.

I hope you’re not directing this _at_ **Mekhazzio** , who was just explaining the phenomenon.

Truthfully, I’m not sure raiders at the time thought in terms of individual players. Whatever gear dropped needed to be for the good of the guild in order to progress. If the game was broken such that a guild _had_ to have good tanks, but DPS wasn’t as critical, then passing over the DPS wasn’t intended as a personal slight but instead meant for the good of the guild. That doesn’t make it right, but it does make it understandable. And the current game is no longer set up that way; it’s in everyone’s interests now to make sure everyone gets a share of the pie. Old-school guild leaders had a reason for acting that way, and now they don’t.

Really, I look at the difference between classic Azeroth and Northrend, and I just boggle at the difference in philosophy and refinement of skill and understanding of the game. Not just in graphics, but in the way quests are designed, in the way travel is facilitated, and in the way instances and bosses are designed. I’m really glad they’re introducing Cataclysm; even though it’s going to change what’s become a familiar, comfortable playground, the old world badly, badly needs updating with the new design philosophies Blizzard used for Northrend and to a lesser extent Outland.

1. I also still have Wiki, but head is a little easier to navigate.

Thanks, **Rik**!

Also I noticed that in the comments section of that quest, people are zeroing in on the \* coordinates\* and it seems to work for them.

This is something I have never done. Is it easier than just finding the objective on the mini-map?
2. It’s just now after 11 on the east coast and when I woke up, I sent some stuff to my mule “ **Wollkie** ”, and hey, I was the only one in the AH and SW was _deserted_!🙂

I know it’s patch day today, but it was kinda nice riding Silka through town and not have to dodge other players! 😉

Thanks

Nodes found are in some sort of relative position to my character so if I spin round the nodes spins while the map stays still oriented to north. Any ideas how I can force the nodes to appear stationary on the map at the exact location of the node?

I use Carbonite and I think there is an option to do what you describe, but I can’t check it till I get home.

Yeah, I already commented on a couple of potential things, but there wasn’t any group that everybody could get behind. For example, the Humans could celebrate moving into Dustwallow Marsh, but the Horde wouldn’t be too happy about that, and the Night Elves might not be thrilled either. The Orcs could celebrate coming to Azeroth, but the Alliance sure as hell wouldn’t be celebrating that. I guess it would work if everybody were celebrating their own arrivals and completely ignoring the arrivals they didn’t like, but that just seems silly.

> [@lizardling](#):

> So I’d be pugging, and as pure ranged DPS, I’m not exactly in demand. 😛

Actually, ranged DPS are usually in demand way over melee. And while tanks and healers are often in higher demand, because of their lynchpin status (one tank or healer fucking up = much more likely to cause a wipe than one DPS fucking up), they’re also the last thing you want to PUG. So IMO, being a ranged DPS is your best chance to be picked up to fill a slot.

> [@Bosstone](#):
>
> My friend and I were discussing the lore behind each race, and we concluded that the Alliance has more bastards than the Horde. The night elves are purple supremacist bastards, the humans are racist bastards, and the gnomes are careless bastards. On the Horde side, Thrall’s Orcs aren’t as bastard-flavored as the old Horde, neither the Darkspear nor the Taurens are even bastard-coated, and while the Forsaken are HUGE bastards, they have the most justification to be so.

Night Elves: Not sure where you’re getting that from. The Highbourne were supremacist bastards; Nelves are just reclusive. Humans: Varian’s a racist, but somewhat justifiably; not everyone else shares his attitude. The groups they hate the most are the Orcs, who invaded their world and killed a bunch of their people, and the Forsaken, who are their family reanimated, shambling around and trying to kill them all. Gnomes are occasionally retarded, but they don’t hurt anybody but themselves. Draenei are… space goats, not really bastards in any way. Dwarves are pretty decent and pretty internally involved with the whole kings’s-daughter-kidnapped-brainwashed-and-raped thing.

Orcs aren’t as bastardy as they once were, but Thrall has no balls and is glorifying the Old Horde, and Garrosh is coming up as the new leader. Darkspear are barely restrained cannibals. Tauren are pretty decent, and they have a right to be pissed off at the groups that are taking over their land. The Forsaken are completely insane, and are attempting to wipe out EVERYBODY. Blood Elves are the majority of what’s left of the aforementioned supremacist Highbourne.

I say Horde are more bastardy.

We’d all be screwed if we needed to re-earn our talent points every time! No, you just talk to a trainer, and they “wipe” your talent spec clean: they remove all your current talents and give the points back to you to use again. And yes, it does cost gold.

> 1. What is a WoW “cd-key”? I stumbled on that while looking for a used WoW soundtrack (there aren’t any), and noted that there are “cd-keys” for other games as well. Sounds “illegal”?

If it’s something you’re downloading, it probably is. The CD key is what activates your account for each expansion. Even if you lose the actual CDs or DVDs that the game comes on, you can still install it for free. But you need an account with that CD key tied to it to actually play.

> [@Quasimodem](#):
>
> 1. Power Crystals: WoW Wiki says they can be auctioned, and it appears that they can be “traded” in for equipment? What do you other warriors usually do with them? Can they also be gifted?

If you mean the Blue/Green/Red/Yellow ones that you find in Un’Goro Crater, those are turned in at monoliths in exchange for items that you can use to give yourself a temporary buff. You can trade the crystals in for the buff tokens, or you can sell them, or you can give them to someone else.

>
> 1. **Rik** , I understand now about the cd key, but if you buy the game and that key is on the package and you enter it when you load the game, why would you then need to purchase another one? 'Cause you lost the original one?

The CD key is permanently tied to your account. Once it’s entered in, it’s used up. Someone would need a CD key if they never had one in the first place.

Absolutely. Full credit should \*\*always \*\*be given when the player is filling a need in the raid. It’s only a problem when the \*\*player \*\*decides to abandon a character that the guild has helped gear up.

I’d say they were right on point one and wrong on point two. You absolutely need to gear your tanks and healers first. (Potential conflict of interest: I am a tank.) You can lose a couple of DPS without too much worry. Even healers can often pick up the slack for each other. But if a tank goes down, you’re generally fucked. Tanks also tend to have more hard caps below which they’re dead. If you’re a DPS who doesn’t make the hit cap… you do less damage. If you’re a tank who doesn’t make the crit cap for Defense… you die, and then everyone else dies. Or, for raids that require some kind of magic resistance, if you don’t have enough resistance that your healers can keep you up… you die, and then everyone else dies.

> [@](#):
>
> Firstly, I could stockpile them and sell them at the AH to pay my raiding costs.

Have you ever heard the expression “need before greed”? It means that people who are going to get use out of the item or mats should have priority over people who are just going to sell it. I would \*\*never \*\*raid with someone who constantly rolled on gear or mats just to sell.

> [@](#):
>
> Why do tanks assume that nobody else in the party needs good gear? I don’t care if you have an insane amount of HP and armor, damage does occur to the others in the raid groups …

I take hits to the face that range between 15k and 30k. Sometimes higher. So, how much unavoidable damage are \*\*you \*\*taking? What was the last boss fight where \*\*your \*\*death meant a wipe?

**That’s** why tanks generally get priority on gear.

Nope. As far as I know, that’s all they’re good for.

You know what else is called “sharing”? Passing the mats on to the people whose use of them will benefit the raid most. Keeping the tanks alive longer and more reliably is generally a higher priority than making you a few extra gold when you sell the mats because you don’t have the pattern yet. “Sorry.”

Argh, meant to add to this:

Once you actually had the pattern you needed to make the cloth gear, you could have argued that you had a right to roll on the mats. Presumably the alliance could have set up a priority list so that one person would get all the mats they need for one item, then another person gets all their mats, and so on. (Because one person with a full item is of much more use to you than two people with half an item each.) They would still have good call, IMO, to prioritize getting the tanks all of the mats they need over a DPS, assuming that the tanks need those upgrades in order for the raid to progress.

True enough, I’m just amused at the phrase ‘purple supremacist bastards’. However, they are the primary reason the world is so screwed up right now. The Night Elves’ arrogance is responsible for the Scourge invading Azeroth, the destruction of the Well of Eternity and the split of the land into Kalimdor and the EK, and the corruption and imbalance in nature brought on by their insistence on creating Teldrassil. Sure, it was mostly an elite few that did the dirty deeds, but arrogance seems to be endemic to the race and they have enough power that that arrogance is dangerous.

And the Blood Elves aren’t Highbourne; the Blood Elves are High Elves, completely different race. The Highbourne [del]all look like Matt Damon[/del] were the ‘nobility’ of the Night Elves, who became either tormented ghosts or went with Azshara to become naga. The lore reason Night Elves are getting the Mage class in Cataclysm is because some Highbourne are coming out of hiding. They’re still Night Elves, though.

I agree with the Orc and Tauren things, but can’t agree on the rest entirely.

Whether Darkspear trolls are noble and just or bloodthirsty savages is [under dispute](http://www.wowwiki.com/Darkspear_trolls_controversy), and I have never seen anything in-game (as a devoted troll player) that indicates that the Darkspear are vicious. If anything, they’re portrayed as being rather mellow in attitude, though savvy. There’s even a [quest given by a troll in the Hinterlands](http://www.wowwiki.com/Quest:Cannibalistic_Cousins) that portrays cannibalism as being utterly savage and unspeakable.

The Forsaken are as varied in outlook as anything you can find - the Apothecaries are pretty much batshit, but you also get ones who are trying their best to make new lives for themselves. There are even Forsaken members of the Argent Crusade and Argent Dawn.

The BElves are mostly semi-recovering addicts so they’re kind of screwed up in the head, not to mention snobby. But they were betrayed by Kael’thas, and left him, and [A’dal revealed the prophecy that could lead to redemption](http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/mob.html?wmob=17076). They’re not pleasant people, but they’re walking a much better path these days.

Heh.
I see a lot of players on LJ WoW and other places wanting Saurfang to step in when Garrosh goes too far, either as Warchief or to place someone else in the position (Rexxar seems to be the odds-on favorite).

Thrall may be stepping down to become the next Guardian of Tirisfal. The comic book series looks to be heading him in that direction.

I’m very interested in seeing how the political situation is going to shake out with Cataclysm.
Ooo! I like the odds-on favorite suggestion you mention! _goes out to rally the voters in Azeroth_
Rexxar is awesome. 😃 I loved meeting him in the original game, and seeing him show up in a more important role when BC came out.

Saurfang is great too, but I do wonder if he wouldn’t be better in an advisor role. Thrall as Guardian of Tirisfal - that’s probably one of the few alternate roles I’d actually feel OK about seeing him in.
Sure, I’ll hold down Varian while you stomp him, then you hold down Garrosh while I stomp him, or vice versa.

We’d have to consult the 2-sided Goddess of Chance to figure out which of those two is more of a warmongering ass (my apologies to ungulates).

FWIW, as a non-tank, I agree with your stance. When I was co-leader of a multi-guild alliance in MC days, we geared the tanks first… there is absolutely no point in having a bunch of DPS wearing FR gear if the tank doesn’t have the gear to survive the fights the DPS are wearing the FR gear for. Gearing the tank in FR gear meant we could start working on those fights, even if DPS didn’t have the gear yet. And yes, once the tanks and some key healers were geared out, mats started being rotated through the rest of the raiders, based on participation.
