Well the emotes are the same as the ones in the original WC games but I think you’re right, the model is from WoW. 😉

The peasants in the old WarCraft games were always built very short and stocky, and sounded kinda dumb. They’re supposed to represent the typical uneducated peasants in pre-modern times who did all the heavy lifting. And they’re remarkably similar to the peasants seen in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (“You’re the King? Well _I_ didn’t vote for you!” and “Help! Help! I’m being oppressed!”)

> But if you’re looking at doing heroics in the short term, you don’t need to stack a great deal of hit rating as you can get elemental precision (or is it just precision now?) which increases your chance to hit by 3%. That makes you hit capped against a level 80 mob. To fight a heroic dungeon boss, you’ll need to get something like 6% hit rating. So, you’re looking for, in the short term, to get about 100 hit rating. The rest you should be able to pick up from gear drops in the heroics.

I currently have precision + 110 hit rating, so I’m good (at least as far as hit) to start heroics?

How does that work? I didn’t know the tabard you wore affected rep!

Lately, I’ve been pulling it from the Sons of Hodir (just hit exalted with them last week), and my priest has been doing a bunch of herbalizing. There’s actually some good stuff I could craft if I can pull my tailoring from 405 up to 450, but I need another 1,000+ frostweave, and that stuff’s expensive to buy. I’ve been getting some from drops, but it’ll take a looooong time to accumulate all of it without buying on the AH.

The game term is [championing](http://www.wowwiki.com/Championing). Essentially, if enemies in a level 80 dungeon (or heroic) grant reputation, you can wear a tabard of a faction and your rep gains will go to that faction instead of whatever the default is.

I’ve found a great place to farm Frostweave is in Zul’Drak, near the place where you do the quests where you end up killing the snake god. The mobs are always fighting the Argent people so they don’t aggro unless you hit them, they’re very easy to kill (usually they’re half dead when you start) and they drop 1-4 pieces of Frostweave most of the time. Just do circuits around the area and you’ll have what you need in no time.

BTW, you really don’t need to get to 450–just 440. You only need 450 if you want to make the Ulduar patterns, and I’m going to guess you’re not going to be getting your hands on those anytime soon.

Warlock question - I tried my felhunter for a bit and didn’t enjoy it much, similar to my experiences with my succy. Thinking about it I prefer not getting hit and no matter what I tried with the felhunter about half way through any fight I ended up drawing aggro. Is this just how it is with these minions or am I missing a trick? I think I may just prefer having a tank with me at all times, Kelantholas is too damn pretty to be clobbered every five minutes.

As a corollary to this though I am currently Affliction and quite a few Warlock websites discuss respeccing into Demonology when the Felguard is available would anyone recommend that? Is he more of a tank?

The tanking pets for a warlock are the voidy and the felguard. Many of the people who use demonology go only up to the felguard; you can do that or just use the voidy (which is a fine tank, it does less damage than the guard but taunts and self-heals).

I respecced my hunter and got her a couple of new pieces of equipment but I’m still hanging onto the old sword for now. I also got herbalism for my warlock so she can make a little money and have been leveling tailoring with her. People on my server really like the colored linen shirts for some reason. I’ve been trying to kill a creepy spider boss for a little while now (Anok-suten). My warlock is level 14 and the quest level is 11+, so I figured I could do it with a minion. I haven’t tried it with the voidwalker yet since I have trouble finding the guy when I go to where he should be. I miss the hunter’s detecting abilities. Oh, well, time to go annoy more undead in the Dead Scar.

I have a perhaps silly question. There’s a portal to Undercity in Silvermoon City. I have tried looking up information about it online to no avail. Is there a way I can use this portal? Or is it just there to taunt me?

I cannot wait till level 30. Having to walk everywhere is a pain when you are used to using a mount.

I’ve been farming frostweave right at the main hub (where the main flightpath is). There are plenty of mobs, and I get a fair number of greens to drop too. I basically round up as many mobs as possible, and then swipe spam or AoE them down - depending which toon I’m on. I’ve also gotten good amounts of cloth in Sholazar basin, just below the Avalanche.

I leveled Affliction, and fell into what I felt was the best (for me) way to do it. It’s called Drain tanking. I use the imp. The imp is set up to be passive and for the stamina buff and fire shield. He does not attack. he is there to supply me with mana. I am the “tank”. The idea is to use your corruption, agony, and lifedrain. You get life back through draininig, and you are tanking, hence the term drain tank. Between dark pact and mana tap, mana is simply not an issue, ever. To kill multiple mobs, I “fear juggled”. I would use fear, howl and deathcoil to keep the mobs running until they dropped. For mobs that hit very very hard and can’t be feared, I used the voidwalker. I would sent the voidy in, set up my DOTs, and watch my threat and the void’s hitpoints. Just before the void dies, I would sacrifice him. This gave me “more armor” and allowed me to finish the mob off in relative safety.

As for demology, that really won’t start to shine until around level 52 or 54 (around there) when you get the felguard.

I went dual spec and found I like both Afflict and Demo.

It’s perfectly free to use at any level. Go to Sunfury Spire and walk through the building until you reach a short spiral staircase. In the middle is the portal, looks like a big orb, and when you come level with it on the stairs there’s a small platform for you to approach. Right-click and it’ll transport you to just outside Undercity proper, within the walls of Lordaeron.

That explains it. I wasn’t going to the right place. My (nearly nonexistent) sense of direction fails me once again. (I get terribly lost in all the capital cities, though I’ve been to Stormwind and Darnassus enough times that I know my way around) Thank you very much.

We’re going to party in Undercity tonight, folks!

> Assuming that you plan on leveling, your most efficient route for beginning talent points will be in affliction as it will greatly reduce your downtime. This will also reduce the frequency with which you’ll have to lifetap because of 2/2 in Improved Drain Soul. And when you do need to lifetap while questing, the return you’ll get from using Drain Life will be greatly improved because of Soul Siphon in conjunction with Fel concentration (the former to increase the amount you can drain based off of how many DoTs you have up on the mob, and the latter to reduce the pushback penalty from being hit). This is the so-called drain-tanking strategy.
>
> I haven’t played my lock since Siphon Life was reworked, so I don’t know how it’s fairing at the moment. But I’d imagine for leveling purposes, having it would be preferable to not having it simply because any gain in health while questing is better than none.

Exactly. Drain tanking works and works well. You went into more detail than my reply did, but it’s the same procedure, step for step.

I’m thinking I’ll try to find more SPI chants to even things out, so to speak.
>
> I need to upgrade her wand too… So. Thoughts on her setup?

I’ve been using a pretty common BM spec for, well, forever, and it’s worked quite well. Focus never is a problem. Hit every area you can, do as many quest chains as you can, and use Ratings Buster for comparing items.

As for pets, mine are “old school”. I have a bear for solo questing and farming, a cat for raiding, and my wolf is 79-and-a-half. I had a gorilla (for thunderstomp), but now all tenacity pets can stomp.

As for gems and enchants, if you just hit Outlands, don’t bother… you replace gear so fast and so often it just won’t matter. Later on, I suggest Agil and Attack Power (but that has a lot to do with the BM spec).

Do you have a DK on Cairne yet? If you’re leveling a toon to just use as a chanter, that might be easier than taking the Pally the whole way up.

Actually, it just got or was about to get a bit of a nerf so that your ArP can’t take the target into negative armor or something like that. I forget the exact details and I can’t look it up from here. But it’s still a very strong stat for Hunters, Rogues, and Arms Warriors (and one without diminishing returns–in fact, it has improving returns, such that an additional point will cause you to do more damage when you already have high ArP than when your rating is lower).

> Incidentally, is it crazy to be contemplating doing a dual-spec DPS/DPS for my death knight? One for soloing and generally messing about, the other for raiding?

If you’re not interested in tanking, there’s no reason not to go with two different DPS specs, especially since they can be optimized for so many different things: PvE raids (bosses), PvE raids (trash/AoE), PvE soloing, PvP…

> [@InvisibleWombat](#):

They invited me for pulls, polymorphs, curse removal, pulling adds off healers, and all the other things a good frost mage can do. As I understand it, most of that stuff doesn’t matter in the current endgame. Have they really turned the mage’s role into just straight DPS button-mashing?

No moreso than other DPS classes, really. There are still points in Naxx, for instance, where decursing is essential, but unless you’re on progression fights with lots of adds (an Ulduar fight or two), there isn’t much CC anymore. Since they handed out more AOE tanking abilities (thank god), there just isn’t as much need for it. And the tanks should be handling the pulls and stray mobs, too, especially in a raid where there’s more than one of us.

The felhunter isn’t a tank pet at all. It’s a dps/cleanse pet, meant to add to your damage done, remove harmfull debuffs from you and helpfull buffs from your traget.

The felguard is an okay tank, but you will pull off of it with sustained dps. You shouldn’t have to worry about this unless you’re using him to tank serious elites.

The blueberry is a better than the felguard, but you’ll still have to watch your dps to avoid pulling off him at higher levels/better gear.

If you have a pet out, and you should, have it engaged whenever you are. It’s not a huge gain, but it’s there, and it’s a good habit to be in if you ever want to start raiding with your lock.

Personally, at least for levelling 70-80, I went deep affliction. The health return from haunt and SL was enough that I rarely had to use DL. The trick was to pull multiple mobs, DoT them up, fear the closest, pet the farthest, and at that point haunt comes back, haunt the highest health mob remaining, collect gear and xp :). These days, the life return from Soul Leech is more than enough to get me through what ever world mobs I’m farming; but I wouldn’t recommend destro unless you know you can destroy any mob you pull before Aftermath wears off.

**Shot from Guns** , as much as I like being able to AoE down packs of trash, I still really miss the serious CC days.

I’d written more, but realised I was just QQing about weak my class is now. Bah, this isn’t the WoW forums. Some one quick, tell me what locks can do better than anyone (PvE only, please)

Thank you all for the Warlock advice. I shall stick with Affliction and my VW I think. It’s just slightly odd, after playing a pally, to be taking hits but not physically hitting them back. When I see mages using spells that slow you down\freeze you I was wondering if warlocks had similar spells and I had missed them.

I like juggling multiple mobs with fear though I do find at my level (30) I have to drink every now and then. I have only just got Siphon Life so maybe that’ll make a difference.

Yeah, that’s about what I figured. Mainly, I’m looking at the 6 talent points in my current spec being used for things other than doing more damage, and figuring that they really ought to get moved if I’m going to be an asset on guild raids. I’m certianly not going to be tanking anything I don’t vastly outlevel until I buy a faster/newer computer, which will have to wait until after (a) a wedding and (b) a down payment on a house are taken care of, so not any time soon.

For that matter, dual-speccing has to sit in line behind purchase of a titansteel destroyer and maybe the dps titanium ring. But I can accumulate in-game gold substantially faster than real-life money.

Don’t forget about Life Tap! Stamina is better stat for Locks than other casters because for a Lock, HP is mana.
