> On at least three occasions now, my pally has encounted NPCs who want me to enact “justice” by going into the Stormwind Stockade and assassinating a prisoner who was convicted of a capital crime and then given a reprieve. I’ve declined each time, since I didn’t figure I was prepared to go into the instance. Just out of curiosity, though, would completing those quests adversely affect my reputation with Stormwind?

Put it this way: The Defias have broken out of their cells and there is a prisoner uprising in the Stockades ‘currently’ (read: indefinitely). Even if these people who are giving you the quests have no authority in the matter and the targets are not actually sentenced to death, when you go in to quell the uprising (which you’re ordered to by someone who _does_ have authority), in all the confusion some folks are going to end up seriously wounded, possibly even dead. Collateral casualties. And they’re all prisoners anyway, who really gives a damn?

Most good stuff that drops in the instances is BoP. This prevents overpowered characters from “farming” loot, and selling it on the AH. It requires players who want the stuff to actually do the instance. 🙂

No. And declining them doesn’t seem to piss off the quest givers, either. 🙂

There are only a few factions that you can lower your rep with, none of them are the racial capital factions, and you’re usually given ample warning about it.

If you manage to kill a booty bay guard, you’ll lose rep with them. Do you get warning popups when you try to initiate combat with one? (I never tried.)

It’s a good day. 350g worth of auctions sold overnight, and I finally won a battle in Alterac Valley. 🙂 Course, it took someone cursing at us over the BG channel before I realized I can heal other people. A little level 52 Pally isn’t that effective against level 60 DKs, but I can heal the crap out of _our_ level 60 DKs. That worked much better than trying to fight.

You have to go to your reputations tab and check the “AT WAR” box before you can even attack them.

All I can figure is that this is a clue that Magistrate Solomon is not human himself, and is in fact a well-disguised undercover operative for … somebody.

… I hate when I go to add something on edit and then realize it’s going to take me longer than 5 minutes …
Anyway, today I ran my pally solo through Deadmines, so that’s finally out of the way. What a pain in the ass that was. The first time I died to Sneed, and man, that was just cheap. When I saw he was piloting the shredder, I wondered if I’d have to fight him after beating the shredder. But then the shredder went down and there’s Sneed’s little green corpse flattened under it. So I started to loot the shredder’s “corpse” instead of healing, and up pops Sneed ready to fight — with his dead body still showing under the shredder!

The second time I died fleeing from VanCleef’s guardians. So on my second attempt on VanCleef, I drew him out of his little shed so that I at least (hopefully) wouldn’t have _all_ of his guards on my ass at once. Then I concentrated all my efforts on bringing him down. I did, and then the guards killed me before I could loot his body.

Man, that is one freakin’ loooooong run back from the graveyard.

Regarding that tauren First Mate (what’s his name - Smite?): Why doesn’t my tauren character’s War Stomp leave _my_ enemies stunned that long? When Chimtahna uses War Stomp to stun an opponent in an effort to escape from melee, he can’t even get two steps away before the monster shakes it off.

Scripted battle. I’m not sure there’s any way to avoid being stunned for that long, as it’s precisely the time he needs to go to his chest and pull out a new weapon. I went into the Deadmines in my 40s, and I spent more time stunned than I actually needed to drop him. _WHACK_ _stun_ _WHACK_ _stun_ _WHACK_ _finally dead_

I’m confused: you look like a human in the screenshot.

Yeah, but it’s a little odd for one member of a race to call another member of that race by the race name. A human might say “What do you have there, dwarf/elf/gnome?” but not “What do you have there, human?”

The dialogue doesn’t really imply anything, it’s just a code they put in on some dialogue for “flavour” (similar to the %t used to return target name in a lot of macros & dialogue). Since the NPC doesn’t actually detect PC race, it uses the same dialogue for all PC’s - there isn’t custom dialogue coded for same-race PC’s. Although he could technically be any humanoid race wearing an illusion, Magistrate Solomon isn’t the only NPC to reference player race - even shared race - in dialogue.

Downloaded and installed the 10-day trial of Lich King. At midnight.

It’s now 3:30 and I’m going to bed.

Death Grip is the coolest thing on two legs!

I just thought it was amusing. Almost on a par with an ogre in Stranglethorn calling my hunter’s pet by name.

AKA “Yank 'n gank”. \<3

I canceled my subscription but I got sucked in again with the WotLK trial. I made a draenei on my friend’s PvE server (I usually play Horde on PvP).

Playing Alliance to me feels like wearing rented bowling shoes that are still warm from the last person. But my friend is offering me incentives to stick around, and anyways it’s a nice break from being air-ganked by 80s in Outlands.

What I mean is the response isn’t AI based. The NPC doesn’t have any real AI that detects for class or race, so their responses don’t vary/aren’t customised - dialogue is just using a script that returns the class, race, sex, etc., of whatever PC is interacting with it.

Yar, and I can’t wait to try it out, but it gets awful tiresome in PVP…

Maybe Magistrate Solomon is a racist, and he’s paying me a compliment by calling me “human” 😃
