World press freedom ranked. My country is nr 1!

Jesus, what is it about some people? The smallest criticism of their own country and it’s a conspiracy.

Look at their website: they bitch about everyone who distorts press freedoms.

I’d be willing to bet if a similar survey were carried out by an independent US-based lobby, you’d accept their results verbatim.

YOJIMBO! I made no allusions that the U.S. should be on top of the list. What I am saying is that this list is Bullshit. I don’t care who’s where or why. If my previous post didn’t explain why I think it’s biased then fuck it!

Now, concerning your little personal attack. I’m not quite sure what evoked that response. I guess some people think that’s the adult way to handle things. Maybe in your part of the world, that’s cool. Whatever.
Not that it means a damned thing to you or anybody else, but my family came here from Ireland. That part of the world’s always been of interest to me.

I have no feeling of superiority as an American over anyone anywhere when it comes to Nationality. That’s absurd, as a matter of fact, there are many places in this world which have preference (to me) over the US for one thing or another.

Anyway…gotta go

Peace

Well this

and your apparent persecution complex which you’ve now explained led to what I said. As I said call the list bollocks if you think so but to see a specific attack on the States is silly IMO. YMMV

I’m also very hung over, crumpy over having to move to another dept. for a project I don’t what to do and just read the GD thread with neo-nazi wankers denying the holocaust and my coffee was cold this morning. Sorry if I came across too strong. You should have seen what I deleted
Peace back at ya

Just a quick visit then I really gotta go:

TwoF Bienvenue sur le site de Reporters sans frontières | RSF this isn’t exactly what I had before but, read down to “missing images”

"It’s a damned joke or don’t you realize that the country’s at the top of the list…

DON"T HAVE ANYTHING TO REPORT!

Let’s see: in the news, in Finland today"
Goddamn guys…can’t y’all take a fuckin’ joke. :frowning:

I thought jjimm got it. Man, y’all talk about being thin-skinned.

I’m merely debunking an obviously, invalid report. Which is BTW, supposedly the first one of it’s kind,(why is that?) by Reporters w/out Borders, who are less than objective themselves IMHO

y’all need to chill…PEACE

I can take a joke, but I didn’t get it. I’m afraid there are people out there who are guilty of what we thought you were doing. Read your first post again in isolation, and then see if you can understand why we took you the wrong way.

The missing images link :

emphasis mine. I believe that he was more upset with the choice being removed rather than the actual images themselves.
I don’t necessarily agree with his opinion about access to Ground Zero, but, and heres the moral of my story, just because you dont agree with the report, it dosent make it flawed.

They are a journalist pressure group. They report on obstructions to Journalism WORLDWIDE, in every country, and not against any one particular country or belief.

BTW, the article you linked to was written as the title says “in the aftermath” of 11th September. It was not part of the report itself, but could explain some of the factors for the US’ position onm the chart.

The article does have a point. there was a huge crackdown in dissent for a while in America, with anything negative being called “Unamerican”. It wasn’t anything planned, just a reaction to what happened.

I’m sorry if I was harsh, but I didn’t find it very funny.

Not agreeing with it does not make it invalid.

if iceland allowes people like me to speak publically, it automatically qualifies as a top 10…it surprised me that it accually made nr. 1

bj0rn - …

Just the Texan in me I guess, suppose it was a little dry.
Let’s see: in the news, in Finland today…uuuhh…hmmm…it’s cold!

the latest from Iceland…well, it’s cold here too!

Hey, sorry if you don’t get it. It hasn’t been cold here in awhile. It was nearly 100* just the other day. The temperature dropped to 70 this week. That made the news here…“cold front hits Texas, temps. expected to be in the upper 60’s”
“which BTW, would be fine w/ me if US had a little more tranquility”

Thought that was my disclaimer!
I wish we had a little more Peace here. Not that Ireland’s exactly w/out conflict.
But, I bet you can walk down the street at night. I mean read the US headlines. Damn’ it’s fucked up, You know I love this place, but sometimes it’s just too much.

later~

i resent that as a warm blooded lava being…

what cold is is often a matter of opinion, and i say that it is much colder in greenland, yet it does not rank in the top 10!

so take your “lack of news” logic to “hot places”…

bj0rn - …

We’re number one! Holland! Holland! Holland!

Take that, you commie American bastards!

[sub]Yeah, I’m a little late, but I liked this thread. Oh, and for the humour-impaired:[/sub]

Count me in as another one SHOCKED that Canada was so high up.

I mean, they’re almost all owned by the same person!

I was pretty shocked too, at first. But, I never considered it an “attack on America”. I mean 17th isn’t that bad. They beat Greece, which was 19th, IIRC. HEheeh

120 Uzbekistan 45,00
121 Russia 48,00
122 Iran 48,25

Now That’s Glasnost !

I wonder why the UK did so badly? It does have some fairly stringent court reporting restrictions and stuff like that, but I never saw that as a “press freedom” issue while working there.

And the United Arab Emirates… suspiciously off the list…

The UK is rather notoriously censorial (the Official Secrets Act, D-Notices etc). I no longer have a cite for this, but when I wrote an essay on media censorship for my politics course at Middlesex Uni I came across a study by the Glasgow Media Group which found the UK “head and shoulders above” the other nine countries it studied in terms of the amount of press censorship.

Mind you it was comparing the UK to other western European countries - I wouldn’t speculate how it compares to the rest of the world.

One of the interesting things was Israel ranked at 92, 10 ranks below Palestine (82). The website for this organization has a brief paragraph about this:
