They started chapters in both Ireland and the US (carried over from Irish immigrants). The Irish Fenians were quickly suppressed by the British, but the American Fenians flourished. They planned to invade and conquer Canada from the bases in the US, and either stay in Canada and rename it New Ireland or ransom Canada for a complete withdrawal of Britain from Ireland. The invasions were quickly crushed after the United States pulled its support from the group.
