> If you see any beers ending in ‘-ator’ (i.e. Terminator, Elevator, Emasculator), they are supposed to be bocks or double-bocks by naming convention.

Dunno as I can speak for anyone else here, but I would think twice before drinking something called ‘Emasculator’.

Budweiser is not even beer by many European laws because of the high percentage of rice used. Beer should have Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, and clarifying agents(Irish Moss or whatever). Wheat is an arguable addition.

Rice, corn, fruit, etc. do not belong in beer. And the only thing I want floating in my beer is my liver (I’m stealing that from Norm Peterson).

Well, that’s not surprising; it’s what beer _is_ - yeast piss mixed with whatever part of the wort they weren’t interested in eating.

Yep, fungi urine and leftovers. Remarkable that it tastes so good.

When I was in Germany, all I drank was Wiezen. I loved cola wiezen, guies mas (SP) and Guies habe (sp). However, when I returned to the states all I could drink was Old Style. Hacker-pschorr is a good imatation.

If there is anyone here from Ontario, have you seen Pilsner Urquel at the LCBO or Beer Store?

Sounds like something worth trying.

But right now, Guinness Drought is my favourite.

It was my understanding that the reason Guinness floated was that it is “carbonated” with nitrogen. Hence the inability to reproduce the effect at home since bottled Guiness is carbonated with CO2. Hafta admit though, I haven’t tried it with the hockey puck/can version. In the interest of science I will take up this experiment and report my findings.

There’s a German beer called BBK Spezial that I discovered while stationed over there. (It came with that wire ring and ceramic plug with an o-ring resealable cap-thing.) It was great, and it had a kick like a mule.

natty ice? You must be in Baltimore. I’m assuming you mean National Bohemium Ice. When I’m in certain downscale bars in Bmore I drink “natty ice” cuz it’s $1 a can and has a reasonable kick, but I don’t drink it for the taste. I miss National Premium and Premium dark which were priced less the Bud but tasted much better. When I was a starving student, I drank Yuengling Porter at $7 a case but they won some award for america’s best porter and now it’s more than triple that. I’m afraid I never developed a taste for Pabst. Miller High Life is as low as I go except in those circumstances where drinking swill is part of the atmosphere.

Did they realy say that About Pilsner Urquell? 1842? There were American pilsners before then. I think It was first brewed in 1292, or therabouts.

Hmmm. What to do, what to do?

There’s not really a question here anymore.

You’re not really debating, just kind of listing and commenting.

Everyone is being too polite for the Pit.

I’ll state for the record that beer is perhaps the most important subject on earth, and therefore not mundane.

O.K. Carry on for now. But this might be GD-bound soon, or even MPSIMS if the lists get redundant.

Oh, and by the way: If you’re only having one or two, Guinness or a good oatmeal stout. Three to five, half-and-halves (Black and Tan if you’re not in an Irish bar) or a weisbier. Six or more, go macro. Lambics are a tool of the devil, and Belgians are good for a communal celebration where Champagne would otherwise be called for.

Manny, I think you forgot to put your moderator hat on. Moderatorish comments like yours might be a bit confusing for some of us dimwits, like me, who just now realized you have recently been accorded the exalted moderator status. Good luck and happy moderatoring.

Maybe I’ll even ask a question now that I’m here.

Does anybody remember **Cinci Beer**? Is it still available? The promotional slogan, of course, was “Who Wants the Handsome Waiter?” Okay, that was two questions. Sorry.

**David B** won’t loan me the hat until I get a haircut. I was just funnin’ anyway. Thanks for the good wishes.

Sorry, never heard of Cinci Beer.

## What the heck, I’ll ask a question, too. Was it ever really illegal to bring Coors beer from Texarkana to Atlanta, or did the brewery just not have a distributor in Georgia?

Dammit, it’s **Cinc_y_** beer, not Cinci. Sheesh.

I don’t know about the specific illegalities of transporting Coors; specifying one brand does sound a bit far-fetched though. I think, and I might be full of hops and yeast, that it is illegal for a private individual to transport a large quantity of any spiritous liquor across state lines. It probably has something to do with state tax laws.

Additionally, I can remember a time in the dim past when Coors didn’t have a national distribution. It was always a treat to get it here in Ohio. Then when it became available nationally, no one here really gave a damn about the stuff.

Ah…beer…a topic near to my heart (and liver).

On the whole I’m not enthralled with American beers. Some are just vile - stayed in a hotel in Utah where there was a happy hour (you guys call it “happy hour”?), and beer was free from about 5 to 6. The beer was Bud. We had soda water(seltzer? club soda?)- even free Bud’s not worth it.
Don’t use smileys, but if there was one for disgust…

I’ve tried some great American beers 'tho- Sam Adams; Pyramid Pale Ale.
British; Barnowl Bitter.
Irish; Murphys.
I’ll look for the Snowcap next visit. So what other beers should I look for in the US next visit?

Now, if you’re ever in New Zealand, there’s a great pub in Wellington, the Malthouse, that does beer tastings.

And if you’re coming to Aus, try Coopers, Red Ant and Full Sail. Coopers has a secondary bottle fermenation a la champagne.

Other national favourites?

Easy question. My homebrew. Currently on tap in a 5 gallon corny keg…a fine aggresively hopped ESB

Come on over…just bought a used fridge for my keg setup…haven’t had the keg warming party yet…
