My Quora feed keeps giving me jokes that start “In the Soviet Union…” and I find that they’re all similar in their punchline (“revealing” that the Soviet Union was corrupt) and I no longer find them funny. I realize that there are several other joke-premises that have worn out their welcome to my funny bone, including 1. an X and a Y and Z (usually “a priest and a rabbi and a minister”) walk into a bar… 2. a salesman finds himself at nightfall in need of a place to stay, so he pulls up at a farm, where the farmer has a teenaged daughter… 3. Someone dies and goes to the Gates of Heaven where St. Peter has a few questions for him before he can be admitted… and several others, none of which have elicited even a smile from me for decades. Which joke-premises no longer are capable of surprising you with their punchlines? ---

I’m old enough to remember mother-in-law jokes. The comedian didn’t have to do much more than say “mother in law.” Thankfully , that one’s gone. Maybe some of the others will go as well. ---
