Every Buffy/Angel commentary with David Greenwalt sucks. It doesn’t matter who else is with him, even when the esteemed Joss Whedon did a commentary track with DW it sucked. Greenwalt sucks all the life out of people. He is like a black hole of interestingness. GAH.
What? Those two are great fun to listen to. It’s commentary as it should be - two mates grabbing a sixpack and sitting down to watch a movie. Sure, there are digressions, but they don’t last long.
The commentary (and I use that term loosely) on Aqua Teen Hunger Force Volume One is astoundingly bad. On one of the episodes, the commentary is nothing but a horrible guitar solo. On another episode, there are such long pauses consisting of nothing but complete silence that I actually forgot that I was watching the commentary. It was just like watching the show with the sound turned way down.
What’s the difference?
There were some SD execs who were telling us we were crazy to try to make a full-length thread out of a lot of kvetching from dorks with a DVD player -
-
oh yeah they did!
-
but we had a strong opening post, really good solid material, and then a number of very good single instance posts and then once we had the key longer post from **Little Nemo ** in place, the thread was really launched
-
oh yeah, Little Nemo added this touch of sex, and he did it so well, just as if it was an afterthought
-yeah, really captured the demographic there!
- and I 've always liked his work. He revisits the thread as well, after the soggy patch in the middle -
-yeah there were too many threads with no sex in them - always a problem -
-and I think he did a lot to lift the thread there
-
yeah, oh yeah that’s right.
-
y’know, we were hoping to get a really good post to make a solid finale , but it just kind of petered out.
Well, yeah, except for the post just about to be made - that one is a real amazing, funny-yet-serious post, y’know, the sort of post that can lift a whole thread straight into **Threadspotting ** and then it’s just a matter of time until Oscar shows up
- yeah, this next post is Really Good. Let’s all pay attention for a minute.
Wibble
Some are good and some are bad. One episode I was disapointed in (with the commentary) was “New Kid on the Block”, from the fourth season. It was basically a Conan O’Brien love fest.
The commentary on Romper Stomper was terrible. He would say things like “There’s Russell Crowe”, and it sounded like he was being recorded in a bathroom it echoes so badly.
