United Airlines/Japan Airlines codeshare on my way back to Japan. I had two broken wrists (long story) so I had a full-arm cast on my left arm and up to the elbow on the right. That was uncomfortable enough, but when I got to my seat I realized that the lights weren’t working. The electricity in my section was out, about 40–50 seats and I was right in the middle of the outage. No movie, no lights, and the shades were closed from about the third or fourth hour of a 12 hour flight, so I couldn’t even read. The flight attendant I talked to had an attitude that said, “Can’t do anything about it, don’t really give a crap either.” United sucks ass.
It was the only flight I’ve ever slept on, though I wouldn’t call it sleeping since I just nodded off from time to time from extreme boredom and disassociation. It was either sleep, or start bouncing off the bulkheads like a meth freak in observation. Not having something to occupy my mind drives me absolutely batshit. Sensory deprivation would probably make me crazy pretty darn quick.
Another sucky flight was coming back to the US from Japan. We had crap turbulence that dropped us up and down. We ended up in a holding pattern for about an hour getting tossed around and I’d been up for about 20 hours already at that point. It was one of the few times I’ve ever had any motion sickness. I didn’t barf, but I was mighty tempted that day.
