Because sandals are meant for bare feet. I voted “other” because of the socks and sandals thing - white or black, socks with sandals just looks stupid. That said, there seems to be an Asian thing where the ladies like to wear thin white socks with all their dress shoes - is that a cultural thing? ETA: I forgot to say, I have to be really careful about overhang - my feet are long and narrow-ish and slide right through many sandals. Since I have eyes, though, I check to make sure this isn’t happening in a mirror when I buy sandals. ---

The two in the OP are just signs of ill-fitting sandals. OK, it’s unaesthetic, but I can sympathize that some folks might have a hard time finding footwear that fits right, in their price range. But everyone has control over whether they wear socks, and socks with sandals is just missing the point of sandals entirely. ---

I guess the only thing that really bothers me are a) flipflops, and b) clearly unmaintained feet. And by that I mean - I don’t care if you don’t get a pedicure, or don’t trim your nails that often, or don’t maintain your nailpolish. I do care if your feet are downright filthy or have huge callouses or whatever. And even then I can’t be arsed to care that much. Flip flops irritate me though. They are NOT the same thing. ---

This thread is making me pretty nauseous. I’m of the opinion that unless standing on a beach, at a swimming pool or reasonably water adjacent men have absolutely no business wearing sandals. It’s not a just world. Society expects me to keep my breasts covered in public at (almost) all times. It’s considered obscene. I wish that men would keep their feet covered in public for the same reason. On a related note, I want to find the person who designed Tevas. Round them up with all the designers of horrible strappy nature sandals and then I don’t know what I would do. I’m upset and shakey just thinking about it. Surely creating the Teva is a crime against humanity. ---

Never seen either of the ones in the poll. I guess TN hicks know how to wear sandals. 🙂 On the other hand (foot?), I do hear lots of flip-flop dragging here. Hate it. Pick up your damn feet, slackers. ---

I said other since I think both bunyions and hairy toes are worse. If you want to wear sandals, at least try and make your feet presentable. ---

I am bravely coming out in favor of the sock/Birkinstock combination. True, I haven’t worn them in several years … but still. When I want to look like a hippy, I need the matching footwear. ---

I’ve seen a few people on this board bitch about flipflops, and I don’t get the hate. Why do they bother you, and what do you classify as flipflops? Of the sandal crimes, the sight of thick, discolored, fungus-riddled toenails bothers me the most. I love the look of fisherman’s sandals. Bonus: they hide a lot of foot ugliness.
