Gotta agree with RealityChuck on this one. Battle Beyond the Stars
really didn’t take itself too seriously. And it was a lot of fun. My favorite scene is still the night before the battle, with George Peppard (as the Space Cowboy) playing harmonica in the background, while a couple of other characters roasted wieners over the two Kelvin characters. (The Kelvin communicate by radiating heat.)
Maybe you had to see it though.
I think that poster was responding to a comment asking him what sci fi he actually likes. At least I hope that’s what was going on.
I think Stephen King cited this movie, noting that, at one point one character says to the other, “Why are we out here”, and the reply is “We are looking for habitable life”. King notes that this would only be true if the cast were pinworms, lice, or toenail fungus, “and for all acting the director managed to get out of them, perhaps they were”.
