The Dope’s servers don’t have room for all the stupid lyrics written by Grand Funk Railroad.

Here’s two samples from just one of their albums - Born To Die:

_I think I’m headed for a terrible accident.
Made more plans than anyone who ever paid their rent.
I’m not stupid and I might be havin’ too much pride.
Surgeon general has determined that I may as well die._
(from _Dues_)

and

_He was on a motorcycle, in a side car.
They was just outside of town, they hadn’t ridden far.
Out to have a good time, on a bike they built.
How was they to know it, that night that he’d be killed_
(from _Born to Die_)

Aaaaaaagh! They burn my ears!!

From Eric Clapton’s _Let It Grow:_

> [@](#):
>
> Let it grow, let it grow
> Let it blossom, let it flow
> In the sun, the rain, the snow
> **Love is lovely**
> Let it grow

While I don’t find that song particularly inspiring, I can tolerate most of it. But I can’t help but cringe when I hear that “love is lovely” bit.

I thought it was ‘I’ve cast the reins down in Africa’ meaning he’d stopped trying to be in control all the time. Which would make sense since the following line is ‘Gonna take some time to do the things we never have’.

Of course, never researched it before and not about to start now, since I’m happy with my interpretation and will only get irritated if it turns out to be a nonsense phrase…

When I first heard it, I thought it was “I guess it rains down in Africa” which, while making a little more sence, still was kind of confusing.
However, in a thread about misheard song lyrics, sometime last year I think, I found out that he says “I bless the rains down in Africa” Sorry, but it’s the truth

From that well known band of scouse gits, **Dead or Alive** (and I know which I prefer)

You spin me round and round
Right round
Like a record player
Right right
Round round

and worse still is this effort by Marc Bolan - Metal Guru (all alone without a telephone)

> [@](#):
>
> Metal Guru could it be you’re gonna bring my baby to me
> She’ll be wild you know a rock and roll child, oh yeah
> Metal Guru is it you, Metal Guru is it true
> All alone without a telephone, oh
> Metal Guru could it be you’re gonna bring my baby to me
> She’ll be wild you know a rock and roll child, oh yeah
>
> Metal Guru is it you, Metal Guru is it you, yeah, yeah, yeah
> Metal Guru is it you, yeah, yeah, yeah
> Metal Guru is it you, yeah, yeah, yeah …

What makes this a particular sin is that the track is finished about one minute 30 seconds in, but keeps repeating the Metal Guru chorus for another two minutes 30.

or even the horror of The Cheeky girls

" We are the cheeky girls.
We are the cheeky girls.
Touch my bum.
This is life. "

Well then, that really \*is \* a stupid lyric.
However, it’s not as stupid as my husband’s understanding of that chorus, which was:

> [@](#):
>
> It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
> There’s nothing that a hundred men on Mars could ever do

😃

First of all, I like the words to Back In The USSR.

That said, the Great Music But Crap Lyrics Award goes to Van Halen:

from Panama:

Jump back, what’s that sound ?
Here she comes, full blast and top down.
Hot shoe, burnin’ down the avenue.
Model citizen zero discipline
Don’t you know she’s coming home with me?
You’l lose her in the turn.
I’ll get her!
Panama, Panama
Panama, Panama

or Every Wants Some:

I seen a lotta people lookin’ for a moonbeam.
Yeah, ya spent a lot. Ya got lost in the jet-stream.
But ev’rybody wants some.
I want some too.
Ev’rybody wants some.
Baby, how 'bout you?

and of course, Loss Of Control:

I checked it out. I think you ought to know.
I’m only wastin’ time. I think I’d better go.
You way too civilized. Oh,
loss of control, loss of control, loss of control!
Loss of control, loss of control, loss of control!
Loss of control, loss of control, loss of control!
Loss of control, loss of control, loss of control!
Loss of control, loss of control, loss of control!

(repeat the whole thing 3 times!)

My vote goes to that classic love song from The Stylistics, _You Make Me Feel Brand New_:

Precious friend,
with you I’ll always have a friend,
you’re someone who I can depend,
to walk a path that sometimes bends.

Check out the original video footage at your local karaoke. Awesome haircuts. Awesome suits. Awesome glasses. Awesome choreography.
