“The Joker” by Steve Miller uses the same word to rhyme not once but twice- “love” in the first stanza, “time” in the second. Add to that the theft of the pompitooz 😉 , peaches, tree, and lovey-dovey lines, and you have a pretty bad set of lyrics. And although I like the song and love the group, CSN’s “Teach Your Children” has some pretty muddled lyrics- you get the gist of it, but something about the phrasing of the lyrics makes them sound weird. **Don’t ask** , if you’re still around, do you know if there is a site where you can hear “Mr. Turnkey”? I’ve heard of the song for years, but never actually heard it and would love to. ---

For me, “Head Games” by Foreigner is the winner of the main event. And clutching the wall whilst her ass appears to be in a urinal. Ah, the misogyny of the 70’s- at least it wasn’t The Scorpion’s infamous Virgin Killer though. ---

Generally speaking, song lyrics aren’t exactly poetry – they’re just song lyrics. Some song lyrics we thought were fraught with meaning back in the day now just seem inane and stupid. Example: “Stop, now, what’s that sound / Everybody look what’s goin’ down.” :dubious: ---

I believe Rolling Stone had (has?) a worst lyric award inspired by _she put me through some changes, Lord, sorta like a Waring blender_ given to songs with truly contorted lyrics, with which ‘Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me’ has in abundance. ---
