I dunno. For me, Donna Summer’s/Gorgio Morodor’s “I Feel Love” is like one of the greatest songs ever. It still sounds fresh to my ears today (I didn’t live through the disco era, really. Born in '75 so have some vague memories of it, but, man, bands like Chic and those great Bernard Edwards bass lines. All classic stuff. Unimpeachable.) ---

I just called that one up on YouTube yesterday as I hadn’t heard it in awhile. It’s an absolute brilliant piece of music and I’d even arguer that Donna Summer herself was the less important part of it (though still necessary to the whole). ---

Ok, I got one… This may be from 1969, but it was a _massive_ hit in the JohnT household during the first half of the 70s, especially when the Boston Pops did a version which also became a minor hit. This is a bad song. It’s also a good song. It’s also a very interesting song, one of the earliest fully-electronic pop songs to hit the Billboard charts, a near decade before the Human League, and an extremely early precursor to EDM. The lyrics themselves are written as a direct response to John. ‘You’d think the people would have had enough of silly love songs…’, etc. So… when Paul sings ‘I Love You’ in SLS… he is singing ‘I Love You’ _to John Lennon_. In other words, _Silly Love Songs_ is a love song by Paul, to John, where Paul tells Lennon ‘I love you, but fuck you, John!’ Just a Masters level education in properly directing your anger towards your art. Someone once said ‘Steven Spielberg didn’t become _Steven Spielberg_ just because he was a good director.’ Same goes for McCartney: the guy was a workhorse who was also a genius at navigating the industry and moving the wheels of power when needed. ---

Heheheh, that is one of the songs that I really do treasure from my youth. Though, I wondered why every time I seemed to hear it, it sounded different. I assumed that was from the variability of the playback over the years and I was remembering things poorly. Nope, there’s at least 13 versions of it. I probably was just hearing rotating versions of the first three.
