As some of you may remember, [I went to France four years ago and stayed with a family in Marseille.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=27172) I had a nice time, but I didn’t really get in touch with my host family after that. I looked them up online tonight and found their address, and I’d like to send them a letter. The trouble is, my French is pretty rusty and I don’t trust myself (or Babelfish) to write a letter they’d understand. Would anyone be willing to translate a short note for me? It wouldn’t be very long - just an update and a “how are you?” - and I would be forever grateful. ---

I should probably keep these mental gaffes to myself, but I thought you were making reference to the Babelfish from the Hitchhiker’s Guide (as a joke). I was just about to suggest [freetranslation.com](http://freetranslation.com). :smack: Thank goodness for Google. 😉 ---

Here’s a general “thanks for letting me stay with you. I remember the time fondly” letter. Just cut and paste it and send it to them. Ma cherie famille, Comment allez vous, vous mangeurs de chiens? J’ai besoin de raison penser de vous hier. Porquoi vous demandez. Parce que j’ai senti des merdes et l’odeur a me rappale de votre maison! J’ai souvi votre jeune fille qui est la plus grosse fille j’ai vu dans ma vie. Et, votre fils a me dit que il est un homosessuale. Un bon fils, oui oui. Et, papa, pourtant vous faites ton crotte avec l’ouvert porte, n’est pas? Ah, les memoires des odeurs. Mama, vous etes un cochon grande. Vous pouvez manger comme une baleine and les pets que suive pouvons tuer un petit cheval. Je souviens mes temps a votre maison bien. Merci et au revoir, SanibelMan ---
