He might win with a “we’re fucked, get ready” campaign, as that seems to be what’s expected…

Seriously though, VP debates with Stacey or Elizabeth against Pence, armed only with thoughts, prayers and a “leader” who cares about TV and himself more than that guy in the robe in the desert, would be a joy to watch.

I’d be one of the 16 peeps who tune in to that debate. 😃

I agree that Biden has to go with a positive campaign with a series of popular objectives like continuing health care reform. But I’d love to see a PAC or some other organization go with an ad campaign featuring video clips of the last three and half years of continuous catastrophes, under the banner headline “Is America Great Again Yet?”

> It seems to me that life has changed significantly in the past few years, and not just because of Covid-19. Trump has redefined what “normal” feels like, and IMO not in a good way. His attack on Twitter claiming that they are suppressing free speech is just the latest example in a long string of things that I would have never even thought possible back when Obama was president. I think many of these things would likely also not have happened under a “normal” Republican President like Mitt Romney or John Kasich. I have a desire to return to the “good old days” as they were before Trump. My question is would a campaign theme of returning to normal resonate with enough people to be a winning campaign theme for Biden? What do you all think? Yes, I realize the irony that based on traditional definitions this would make the Democrats the conservative party.

I don’t want a return to “normal” because normal sucks ass. Normal is rich people writing all the laws, black people being killed by police and the force of law used to cover up crimes and exploit the citizenry. I don’t wanna go back to that, not even if Joe Biden is president. Normal is 6 Americans each having more wealth than the other 329,999,994 American have combined. I don’t want that world anymore; you can have it.

Normal is an improvement to the abnormal that we currently have. That does not make for an inspiring slogan, I will concede. But rather than complain that too many people are [Precious Little Voters who Need To Feel Inspired By Candidates](https://politics.theonion.com/precious-little-voter-needs-to-feel-inspired-by-candida-1819578715), instead Biden can be a stepping stone to even better things.

As the New York Mag’s Intelligencer posited, [Joe Biden Is a Tool (But Progressives Can Use Him)](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/03/why-bernie-sanders-supporters-must-vote-for-joe-biden.html):

> Biden may comfort older Democrats with promises to restore an imagined past. But the younger voters who have overwhelmingly backed Bernie Sanders demand a road map to a better future. And the one they thought they had now lies in tatters.

> There is little reason to presume that the most harrowing climatic and political trends will continue unabated in the coming decades. But even if one assumes the worst about where we will be in 2050, minimizing the number of people who lose their uninsured mothers (or fathers, or kids, or friends) to treatable illnesses in 2021 would still be worthwhile. Joe Biden’s election would make a marginally better world possible. And once that world is won, a radically better one just might become possible too.

I am just unsure what catchy slogan can be used for that.

More than is normal this early, people have already made up their minds about the candidates. The thread title implication, that campaign strategy will decide the race, is mistaken.

Maybe I’m just saying this to be contrarian, but Joe will help himself a smidgen if he sits on his lead and avoids motivating lazy Trumpers to go out to vote.
