# Would it bother you if someone was smoking marijuana on the sidewalk?

I just passed by a guy smoking a joint and walking his dog. It didn’t bother me at all. However, I live in a very busy urban area with few children. Plus, the guy picked up after his dog, so more power to him. It’s a blustery Chicago winter day and there was no odor.

Last dude I passed smoking weed in his car was playing [Dimension](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8asLN6_EaTE) by Wolfmother, really loudly. He offered me a toke when I knew the chorus.

I smell it all the time here in Chicago, but I can’t remember ever seeing someone obviously just casually smoke it out in the open outdoors. They’re pretty discreet about it. But it’s only been fairly recently that medical marijuana has been approved here, so perhaps if he’s got his card, he doesn’t care at all? Or are you not allowed to smoke it in public?

No not at all , my state Ma. pass a law to smoke marijuana but it seem to be up in smoke about what going to happen . ☹

Same as with vapes and cigarette smoke: If there’s a cloud forming such that I have to walk through it and get that smell in my hair, I’m bothered. Otherwise, have at it.

No, not bothered by it and here in Eugene I see it almost every day when I’m walking around downtown. It’s supposed to be illegal to smoke in public, but the cops obviously have better things to do. I used to see it fairly often before recreational was legal, too.
Shortly after recreational was legalized in Oregon, my wife and I were riding our scooters through the city and smelled pot smoke for a long while. When we stopped at the next light we looked at each other and said simultaneously “does the entire city smell like dope now?” Then we saw a huge cloud of smoke roll out of the open windows of the car in front of us and realized we had been riding in their vapor trail.

If I can smell it, yes. Its smell causes panic attacks for me. In most cases I’ve only experienced the early stages of one because I always escape, including a time a co-worker’s clothes reeked of it. I’m probably allergic, to that and to alcohol as well. Touring a brewery when I was a teen was very unpleasant. I don’t care otherwise if people want to use it as long as they mind their business; I just wish they didn’t ingest it by smoking.

I don’t get panic attacks from it, thank goodness, but I hate the smell of it and hate being made to smell like it. For the same reason, I don’t hang out around people who smoke tobacco.

As the date nears here in California people are becoming bolder, I saw some kids passing one around at the coffee shop the other day. Nobody seemed to pay any attention.

I don’t want your smoke, but I don’t mind your habit. If my kids are along, it would probably lead to a conversation about consumables versus smoking and long term smoke effects OR appropriate drug use, because they are kids, and that’s my job.

I definitely don’t like cigarette stench more than I don’t like MJ 2nd-hand smoke.
On sharing: Tom Lehrer offers advice to Boy Scouts:
