A twin mattress is the only kind I would never buy used. Dust mites are impersonal. But kid-pee? Ugh. Twin mattresses imply children, and children imply “accidents.” Count me out.
Stillwell, you’re not the only one. I’m very wary of used mattresses and have only had one in my life, from a relative, which wasn’t that bad in my mind. A random strangers mattress, though? No way!
I paid a very decent sum for my brand-new mattress and it’s well worth it to me.
Oh thank goodness, I was starting to get a complex. Now I don’t feel so isolated
It’s nice that you don’t feel isolated any more, but just remember that the rest of us are still here.
Judging you.
I slept on the dormitory mattresses, and I sleep in hotels and at other people’s houses. All of that involves an accepted level of discomfort and inconvenience. But when buying a mattress for myself, I would have to be pretty hard up to buy a used one–or to buy any used upholstered thing at all, unless my intention was to redo all the soft parts. Upholstered things pick up smells, if nothing else.
Bedbugs. Fleas. Lice.
Nuff said.
:eek:
{Runs off to hide under the covers of her one owner mattress}
I’d have to be pretty desperate to buy a used mattress. I’d rather have your nice twin bed frame minus the mattress–if I were interested at all. That said, I don’t have a problem with sleeping on dorm room mattresses, hotel room mattresses, other people’s guest room mattresses, etc. It’s just that if I were in the market for a mattress, I’d want to postpone needing a new one as much as possible, probably by buying new. Just like I like being the only owner of my car.
