Would you chose to live in true virtual reality?

Count me in. But I’d prefer to just be uploaded and live on the net forever.

Sure, I’ll take the blue pill.

Why do I see a price war between bio-VR and digital-VR coming up?

I don’t really know why I’m bothering to post in this thread, since I already made the decision and all of you are just aspects of the simulation, but anyway, in the interest of pretending this is reality…

No. I might be tempted if I could manipulate the simulation from inside at will, but definitely not otherwise.

What if you stepped in front of a bus or jumped off a cliff in VR, what would happen, a “groundhog day” scenario? Or would you just die?

One of 2 things, if you chose to set it up as a ‘safe’ live, meaning you will die of old age then you might get seriously injured, perhaps in a coma for a few weeks (while the computer thinks how to make you believe you lived).

If you chose real life mode then the computer would calculate your damage, i.e.
pierced lung = lower respiration by 72%
lost ? units of blood = lower blood pressure by 30% & volumn by 20%
Scull fracture = 10% damage to brain, shut down brain function in areas
As you loose more blood, get less O2, your brain will continue to shut down till you expire.

Either way there would be conquicidences to your actions. The funny thing about the ‘safe’ mode is that there is no chance of sucide, so no early exit.

This brings up another interesting issue. If you chose ‘safe’ mode, then inside VR you chose to go into (another) VR and chose ‘real life mode’, what happens if you die?

No way.

Real life is WAY more interesting than anything a computer geek could dream up. Or anything I could dream up, for that matter.

And I think the brain is simply one medium that can store and run the human mind. I hope I live to see the day when I’m finally able to upload myself to a more durable medium.

I don’t have a problem with five or five million mes running around. I think that is a damned fine way to explore the Universe, in fact.

Damn… Looks like I’ll be late for work again… Some drunk safe mode-er got bored and went for the subway again.

Hmm…it’d be tempting, I’d admit. Damn tempting.
