It doesn’t sound like a terrible deal for a summer or two, but it might be lonely. We had an intern at our ad agency, who’d not only been the Bucky Badger mascot while in college, but drove a Weinermobile after he graduated. Warning to introverts: You are an Oscar Mayer Ambassador, so you’re interacting with the public, and gladhanding while you hand out Weiner Whistles to kids at every county fair from Springadore to Sinatra. Sigh, this kid was super-perky: “Of course I’m super-perky! Everything I DO is super! Super-perky, super-awesome, annnd… super-sincere! And I hope everything YOU do is super, too!” ---

A friend of mine drove around a Red Bull car for a year or two and then became the manager of the people who drove the Red Bull cars. It’s an absolute blast for the right person. He got to go to lots of sporting events and fairs to hand out energy drinks. ---

nitpick: Copy editors asleep (or, more likely, non-existent) at the job: Weinermobile in the headline; wienermobile in the body and captions. It’s the latter. _Wien_ (prounced “veen”) is the German word for “Vienna,” which the sausage is named after. _Wein_ (pronounced “vine”) is German for “wine.” /nitpick And hell yeah I would drive the Wienermobile! I might even be able to fake enthusiasm for Oscar Mayer’s hotdog as well. They’re at least not as bad as Bar-S dogs. ---

I’m trying to talk Son-of-a-wrek into this. He’s definitely perky and outgoing and funny. He could really do it. Has special drivers license. CDL it whatever it’s called. He says they’d frown on his Bud light in the cab. And probably charge him for the whistles or other freebies to hand out. No dice. ---

I’d do it- except for two minor things. #1 I get lost very easily and have no sense of direction. I feel I could overcome this with GPS and such. #2 I don’t have a license or know how to drive. This is a bigger problem. ---

Although I’m way past the age demographic to be eligible, I would definitely drive a Wienermobile! Any time I see one in my travels I make a point of saying hello to the Hotdoggers. Besides giving out wiener whistles and coupons, they have “business cards” with their Hotdogger Team nicknames and amusing personal stats. Drive it: I’d do it instantly. I hold a commercial Class C driver’s license so I can skip the orientation video. Take the job for a year: Probably not going to work financially and career-wise but I’d do a couple local shifts. My dream retirement gig would be the wisecracking oldtimer behind the counter at a hot dog joint (where I work 10 hours a week and I get to schedule them) but the mobile hot dog promotions industry sounds pretty fun. It’s safe to say I’m a lot more outgoing than most of you and talking about sausages (or novelty vehicles for that matter) are particularly appealing. ---

Pedantically, it’s a Wienermobile, pronounced ‘weener’. Weiner would traditionally be pronounced like ‘whiner’ and hell yes, I’d drive it. ---
