EW! ewewewewewewewewewewewewew. I cannot unsee. Gimme the brain bleach! So I’m just minding my business, going to get coffee around 1pm and in my peripheral vision see that someone’s out on the large patio. I made the unfortunate mistake of then looking over to see who it was. Oh, it’s Glenn. And he’s shirtless. What. The. Fuck. Who the hell does that? What if I wanted to eat lunch out there? Yes it’s sunny out. There are also surrounding apartment buildings on three sides, that can all look out to our nice big 2nd floor patio. I don’t think any of those folks would expect any more then I would, to find a shirtless dude sunning himself on this professional building. Said patio is also lined with 25 feet of glass, and is visible to anyone in either the break room or education center, or the large hallway that adjoins those rooms. Go on, tell me it’s totally normal to lunch at work without your shirt. ---

Our office is pretty informal, but I would insist men keep their shirts on, even on the deck. ---

why should I care? It’s none of my business. He’s outside, wants to soak in some sun. Go for it. I wouldn’t join in. That’s my choice. What he does is his choice. Management should consider a privacy screen for sections of the deck. Sun lovers can use that. We all leave for work very early and get home late evening. When else can we catch some rays? Lunch is the only opportunity. ---

Depending on the rack in question, I wouldn’t have any problem with some women doing it though. I keep a fancy lounge chair in the back of my SUV and extra clothes like bathing suits. I have a spot that I go to at a nearby beach and lay there in various stages of undress during lunch. I have never run into a coworker there but I guess I could because there are people around. Besides it being literally at work, it is little different than going to a pool or the beach with your coworkers and I have done that plenty of times. I currently work with a bunch of hardened blue-collar workers so the results wouldn’t be pretty but I can promise you they wouldn’t give a shit. ---

No curtains/blinds (because they’re not necessary). All you can do is keep your back turned - away from the natural light you’d also like to get a little of during lunch - and hope he stays out of your periphery. ---

In my previous job as a scuba instructor it was common for the guys to roll their wetsuits down to their waists and soak up some rays between dives or during lunch. For some reason we don’ t do that in my current job at a 9-1-1 centre. 😛 ---

I don’t even sit around my living-room without a shirt on but I’m not sure I would object to it at an outdoor break-room/area. Inside yes. ---

True story: as a consultant, when you are on site, the client often stashes you in a random conference room or some such space. My team was getting situated in a decent space by some stairs. I was describing it to a person bringing something to us, and he goes “oh, yeah: the Naked Guy space.” :dubious: Turns out a programming group from IT had been there. One Tuesday after a long weekend, the team arrived to find a fellow member, naked as a baby, programming away in a strong manic episode. Too funny. ---

I’ll give you modesty impaired. We were on a beach in St Martin, in chaise lounge chairs. My gf was talking with a French couple in that gibberish they speak in France. I learned later they were discussing swimwear shops and the deals that could be had. So, the woman tells her husband he should be wearing the suit he bought earlier that day. He stands up (right next to where I’m reclining) and gets his new suit out of their beach bag. He then changes suits, _standing right there_, while I wonder, WTeverlovingF?! Now _that_ is modesty impairment! ---

While I’ve been called one of the most bent straight people my friends know, I’m just not a fan of trying to have lunch _in a work setting_ with shirtless people in general.
