Most of the ones that I wouldn’t want around have already been banned so we’re good. There are some that we’d have to agree ahead of time that certain topics of discussion are permanently closed though. But there are plenty of topics available that we won’t be stuck with awkward silence. ---

I have not stayed with nor hosted anyone from this group as of yet, but have done both with members of other online groups I have been a part of. So far all such experiences have been good ones. ---

No, for a few good reasons. It would constitute a violation of my lease. We only have one bedroom. And, back in the wild west days of the internet (1997-ish), my recently-divorced mother went through a phase of inviting strangers from TalkCity chatrooms into our home. She wanted the companionship, I think. My younger sister and I were 12-13 at the time. Nothing terrible happened, a couple of mild creepers aside. But it was not a sign of good parenting, and not something I would ever consider putting my husband through. ---

I have, this same month. I’ve also visited friends I only knew from internet; I met The Bestest Boyfriend in a meetup of people from a MUD, one of whose Creators (top admin) was spending the weekend at my house. I’ve got extra bedrooms; I wouldn’t invite any Doper same as I wouldn’t invite any of my relatives, but in general I’m happy to have people in on an “here’s the keys, here’s your room, the kitchen and the bathroom, have fun” basis. I’m an atheist, but in the last house I owned one wall was decorated with 15 - 20 beautiful, ornate crosses/crucifixes including one with a hidden compartment holding a vial of water. Guests enjoyed them as much as any other art in my home.🙂 ---

Yeah, but I didn’t say “if it was an atheist”, I named a specific one who’s been known to have days when he’d like to take a hammer and chisel, or maybe a few handmade bombs, to anything religious including art. My books he’d probably like; my custom of having some sort of religious thing in any room where you don’t take showers, probably not. It’s just part of the “good host” thing, like buying gluten-free stuff for your celiac SiL. ---

I’ve seen rice prepared along those lines in Spain but well, I don’t think the cook would have called it Spanish 🙂 It would have been described as “rice with tomato and pimentón” (the other ingredients aren’t considered important enough to be mentioned). ---
